Making GC4 Drop Pockets Fit Better

The drop pockets on my GC4 don't seat very well into the pocket castings. After the pocket hex bolts are tightened there are small 1/16th to 1/8th inch gaps between the edges of the pockets and where they should seat. Its obviously not a functional issue, but the appearance of the table would be greatly improved if I could get the pocket edges to seat flush in the casting recesses.

I was considering using some sort of contact cement to aid the hex screws in accomplishing that but I'm concerned I'll make more of a mess than I"ll fix.

Anyone have any better ideas on how I might do this or on what type of contact cement/glue might do the job?

I'd better start with the disclosure that I am not a table mechanic.
But I do have a GC V with the same pockets and the same issue.

The two things I have found that can cause this problem are casting shims sticking out (my bad) and the cushion cloth interfering with the pocket liner. The cloth is more than likely your problem. The cloth interference can be made worse with tight pockets.

Brunswick's installation instructions call for trimming the edge of the pocket liner at the cushion edge. If the problem is minor, that should take care of it.

If the pockets have been tightened, the ideal thing is to relieve the subrail so that the cloth doesn't interfere with the pocket.

Funny thing, last night I was thinking about rubber cement for this very same problem. If you try it (and I see no reason not to, heh heh), let me know how it works.

Good luck,
Howard

2 sided tape placed between the casting and the ear of the pocket liner;)

I have removed the cloth and cushions and reinstalled the pockets with rails bolted to the table and find that it still has a slight gap that your talking about....
Just for a good laugh for you guys I will post a pic of what I came across one day, and one of the main reasons I was called in..
