If you like Triangle tips -- Some information and a mystery

They are usually rated as a "hard" tip, but they don't produce a "clink" or "ping" sound like some hard tips. They sound like a relatively soft tip to me. A good Triangle tip plays as well as any tip out there IMHO. I have played with many different tips, including quite a few pricey, layered...

If you like Triangle tips -- Some information and a mystery

I am only going on what a cue maker, Kevin Varney, once posted. He claimed that the ones that sink will be the better tips. But another poster in this thread said he knew of someone who tried to test this out and found that the water test really wasn't that good an indicator of how the tip would...

If you like Triangle tips -- Some information and a mystery

And to think that in my youth I scored really high on the quantitative section of the GRE!? Of course, you are exactly right and I'm embarrassed that I didn't think of this myself. You can't quite fit five 15mm tips along the inside edge of the square box.:)

If you like Triangle tips -- Some information and a mystery

Right, I knew I was getting 40 tips in the box. There was no deception. I just thought it odd that the label said 50 tips. You may well be correct in thinking that Tweeten may have just not wanted to print a different label, especially considering that there is probably a low volume of these...

If you like Triangle tips -- Some information and a mystery

A few weeks back I read a thread that mentioned 15mm Triangle tips. One poster claimed that the 15mm tips were more consistent than the 14mm Triangles and another poster said that Tim Scruggs preferred the 15mm tips. Here is a link to that thread...

Hard Banks Curve Short - Why?

I remember when Eddie Kelly came through Dallas, about 1963, and showed us locals a bank shot just like you mentioned. In this case, it was a bank into a corner pocket with a ball partially blocking the direct path from the rail into the pocket. I was standing where I could see that the object...

    Bobby Cotton

I'm going to get one of your books for him -- he'll be tickled pink to see his pic in the book. When I was visiting him, he asked me to dig through some stuff beside his bed to find a particular photo. As I started sorting through the stuff in the pile by his bed, I came across a loaded...

    Bobby Cotton

Hey, Robert, glad to see that the book is about to be available. I saw Vernon Litton a few weeks back and he's in pretty bad shape. He broke both hips a while back and has had a stroke. He's bed ridden and 82 years old, so it doesn't look good for him. I'm hoping you used that pic of him and his...

    Bobby Cotton

I'm looking forward to seeing the book I talked to Robert several times about his book and sent him a bunch of old pool pics for his use in the book. Even though he was only a teenager back in the 1960s, he came to know several people in the Dallas pool scene of the 1960s whom I also knew, so...

    SCREWED by Rack'em Zack'em..BEWARE

It has happened before.....to me! It was a long time back, but I bought a shaft from him. It was not as he described it and when I complained about it, he called me a liar in a public post on AZ. He later admitted privately that he had not even been the one to pack or send the shaft. It's been...

What do the Top Players in the World AIM at?

? So just to be clear, you expect several of the players you name (only one of which has ever, to my knowledge, posted on AZ) to chime right in and explain their aiming technique? Just wanted to be clear about your post.

    Congratulations to George Fels!

George Fels has been one of my heroes for years. Like many of you, whenever I get a Billiards Digest magazine, I turn right to the back page to read his column. I consider him one of the finest, if not the finest, writers in the world of pool. Whenever his name comes up in conversation, I always...

    Using the lights for aiming

It is a really "old school" technique I can't explain the technique, but I can tell you that I first encountered people talking about using the reflection of light off the object ball as a method of aiming about around 1963. And it was a couple of the stronger players that seemed to know about...

When your at the bar and your playing with someone who knows how to shoot...

There are some things you just don't lend to others: a fountain pen, that watch your father gave you just before he died, your wife or girlfriend, and your playing cue. I might lend out one of my cues if I have 2 or more with me, but I never lend out the cue that is my player at the time.

    was this a fair matchup?

Too short a race to make any judgement with confidence. Having the break may not lead to break and runs for you, but it keeps the break away from him. Just based on what you have said, I'd say you have the bes of the match up.
