Can someone explain why my eyes deceive me like this? (draw shot)

I was practicing my draw shot today and after struggling for a while I decided to switch the cue ball with a stripe ball to see how much spin I was actually getting. I remembered from Byrne's video that the width of the stripe is the boundary of where your tip must strike the ball to avoid a...

Why am I regressing?Shouldn't I have improved at least a little?!

Mino, Thanks so much for your responses. I do have a camera but I haven't taped myself because I just wouldn't know what to look for. (I used to this with my tennis practices quite often) Hopefully with the DVD's I ordered I'll get a good idea though. As far as what mistakes I make, it's one...

Why am I regressing?Shouldn't I have improved at least a little?!

Thanks to all for your replies. As far as how I practice I'll try to summarize so as not to make this post too long. I actually keep a journal of what I practice every day so I have some kind of record. I try to vary my practices as much as possible. One day I'll practice Joe Tucker's GI...

Why am I regressing?Shouldn't I have improved at least a little?!

I've been practicing for 3 hrs a day for the last 2 weeks and it seems that I'm regressing! I'm so frustrated!! I know that it's only been 2 weeks but shouldn't have I improved at least a little? Or at least not get worse? I measured myself by playing equal offense (with 3 ball in hands per...

Is there a way to adjust straight pool for beginners?

Thank you all for so many great suggestions. I'm going to propose some of them to my brothers tonight, hopefully they'll want to try something new. They're so obsessed with 8 ball, which I like as well, but I really would like to try something new .

Is there a way to adjust straight pool for beginners?

My brothers and I play a lot of 8 ball; however, I've read that for beginners it's better to play straight pool to help them improve. The problem is we're not good enough to leave a key ball and break a rack while sinking the shot. Not to mention that playing with those clusters of balls left...

Better investment for beginner: Predator shaft or $200 worth of training products?

Wow, thanks for all the responses. I see it's a unanimous vote for Instructional materials. I was kinda hoping for that :) Thanks again.

Better investment for beginner: Predator shaft or $200 worth of training products?

LET ME START OFF BY SAYING THAT I LIVE IN A SMALL TOWN AND THERE ARE NO CERTIFIED INSTRUCTORS IN MY AREA, WHICH IS WHY I HAVE NOT TAKEN ANY LESSONS. I recently purchased a Pechauer cue. And it was only after I had purchased it that I received Tucker's "guaranteed improvement" book and in it he...

How can I avoid chalk smears on the ferrule? (caused by case)

Actually, no he didn't give me the reason. It was someone with Pechauer. I called to ask about general maintenance and cleaning and I asked him how they should be stored. It didn't occur to me at the time that I would get chalk on my shaft py storing it tip down  I've purchased a...

How can I avoid chalk smears on the ferrule? (caused by case)

Like I said, I do wipe the chalk off before storage, but it still smears.

How can I avoid chalk smears on the ferrule? (caused by case)

I've been told that the shaft should be placed tip-down into my case, which i've always done, but the problem is that the chalk from the tip smears off onto the ferrule. Even with me wiping the tip before I store it. I hate the way it looks. How can I avoid this? What happens if I store my...

    J. Pechauer Custom Cues

Thanks for the reply...I just got my Pechauer (JC 1) about 2 hrs. ago and I love it! I know I'm just a beginner but I can certainly feel a difference between the JP and my stealth. Question: Is it possible to keep the shaft as smooth as it feels right now? I mean is there some kind of...

    J. Pechauer Custom Cues

Did you by any chance try one of their JP series? If so how would you compare it to the Pro? I just ordered one last week (the JC 01). I called them and was told that there was no difference in playablity. I was told they used a different joint and the pro series had a stiffer feel to it but...

How would you recommend I structure my practice?

Thank you all very much for your replies. It seems like the general consensus is to play games, wether it be straight pool or runout games of 8ball or 9 ball. I'm actually pretty surprised. I thought it was going to be drills and more drills (which I don't mind because I actually like...

How would you recommend I structure my practice?

I was hoping some of you more experienced players/instructors would be willing to help me out by steering me in the right direction. I just purchased a pool table and am getting back into the game after many years without playing. I was never very good but now that I have my own table I really...

Difference between Pechauer 'Pro' & 'JP' series?

I just wanted to thank everyone who posted for sharing their thoughts and suggestions. I just purchased a Pechauer JC 01 from Seyberts.com. I know I originally had said I was going to get the JP-USA on ebay but I also wanted a case and with the seybert bucks I was able to get them both for...

Difference between Pechauer 'Pro' & 'JP' series?

Unfortunately there is no place for me to demo cues here. There is only one shop here that sells cues (and they don't carry pechauer) and it's a pawn shop. They don't have a playtable to try them. If I wanted to try before I buy I'd have to drive 300 miles to San Antonio. So I just have to...
