    Worn router bearings?

That sums it up nicely. I never would have expected it to be the live center.

    Custom CueMaker Challange

While I tend to like the aesthetic balance of Dig's cue, the level of difficulty in Chris's cue gets my vote.

    Worn router bearings?

As it turns out, my live center had some play in it. When I swapped for a new one, the problem disappeared. Thank you all for your efforts in helping me straighten this out.

    Length of Ferrul

Deflection happens when a basketball falls through the hoop and bounces off your head into the bleachers. Also see baseball for a related definition on saculation.

    Finish Question for a Novice

Some of us sand and refinish, sand and refinish, sand and refinish, cry, cry some more, and then refinish, sand, and buff.

    Red to maroon

Redheart will eventually turn to a honey brown if not protected. Padauk may be the color for you.

Does this cue have an A-Joint?

Considering the grain orientation, the lack of decoration, and the existence of similar unwrapped cues, I would guess it is a single piece of wood.

Is it possible to re-joint a 314 shaft?

Weight changes (if any) would depend entirely on what is used for the plug.

    Thinner and lighter.

Inlays in the butt could possibly be affected as well, depending on methods used and depth of inlay. Your mod sounds like more trouble/risk than it's worth.

    bar beater cue ideas

I tend to think a firmish tip with a good curvature will spin the ball as much as you could possibly expect it to spin, regardless of what cue it is attached to.

    staining cocobolo black

I'm thinking Mr. Perry thinks the whole project is silly and is pulling a leg. He has done that before. I kinda agree with him. I think the most practical fix is just buy a new cue.

    Worn router bearings?

There is about 0.015" difference between measurements 90* away from each other. I don't really have any end pressure. I use one finger on my lever (Hightower lathe) and only close the gap. I don't apply any pressure. After locking the lever, I make sure I don't have any slop in the wood to...

    African Blackwood and tone

"Does the tonal quality, which involves resonance thru the cue, have any thing to do with the playability of the cue?" Which part of this doesn't inquire about tonality and performance?

    Worn router bearings?

I have been having issues with shafts coming out egg shaped (noncircular cross section). Once upon a time, I did not have egg shaped shafts. I just discovered that my router has some play in it. Does this typically cause the issue I have with my shafts or am I in deeper doodoo than I thought...

    Common misconceptions

I once had a guy take the time out of his busy day to tell me how my pool cue was made. As in the cue I made from scratch from billets of wood, brass rods, aluminum rods, composite rods and made everything for myself. When I corrected him on a few points, he ignored me as if my having the same...

Changing the balance of a cue

Stainless steel is NOT plated. It is a different metal throughout. There are 3 'breeds' of corrosion resistant steels. One is a little magnetic, but nothing like tool steels. The other two are not. Ask an airplane mechanic.

    a question to shaft sellers

If you want a guarantee, then the seller will have to take a great deal of time inspecting every one of them. That would drive the price too high to be realistic and even then the guarantee would be unrealistic. Wood is not a manufactured product.
