    Wrap motor question

I like Dave's idea of the windshield wiper motor. I like the dual speed. Here is one with a similar concept. Just ditch that Drive Wheel. Runs at 45 RPMs on 24v and 22.5 RPMs on 12 volts. Its also reversible. http://www.surpluscenter.com/item.asp Search for Item 5-1660 Then you can use one...

    Wrap motor question

Joe, you can just use a Power Supply out of a Computer. They output both 5 + 12 volts DC. I think its the red wire but a mutli-meter will verify this. If you ask around I'm sure you know someone with an old PC they are looking to ditch.

    Mach3 E-stops when spindle starts

Neil, I would also make sure everything is shielded. Don't buy a $10 printer cable. Get a good shielded industrial quality cable. Same for the other cables. Make sure the VFD and the computer are not near each other. I'd certainly start with the suggestions Jim made but even if they resolved the...

    Atlas price increase

I forgot about that. The sales rep at SBE told us their tips were going up this week. I need to order stuff from Atlas but I don't have a complete list together. When I order a bunch of stuff the shipping isn't so bad. So I try to figure out what I might need for the next couple months and throw...

I am in the market for a metal lathe

That is a good writeup Randy. I remember reading that when you posted it. I would add to learn about lathes. How they work, how they are made and how they are repaired/maintained. Know the parts and their function. Know how to tell if the bed/ways and spindle bearings are worn. Know how to tell...

    Wtb:Drive Pins

I bought 2 sets made out of Stainless from Atlas and they were made really well but a bit expensive. You can try Chris Hightower or for an inexpensive set contact Dave Hedrick (Davescuerepair) here on AZ. I bought a set of 11 or 12 that covers just about ever joint type. He gave me a good price...

    Quiet Router

Dave and Rick give good advice here. You really need to use hearing protection. I worked in a machine shop for years, wore the headgear on really loud stuff and also used those foam plugs on other stuff. But I still have hearing loss (well I did use to like loud music and attended my share of...

    Wrap motor question

You can also get a Gearmotor. Chris sells a block that you can mount to your lathe bed and attach the gearmotor to that. I am not sure if they sell a variable speed gearmotor but if you find one please let me know. Grainger sells them and you'd probably want one in the 60 -90 RPM range.

    This is not a joke

Sorry dude but that thing is not a lathe. I would listen to the above advice from Neil and Chopdoc. You could build this POS out of 4x4's and a drill motor AND make it better and safer. The shaft is only held by that rubber boot so it looks like the shaft could come out if you're not paying...

    Having some pins made

The parts are expensive and I'd have to buy the tooling as well. Never know though, one day I could decide to switch but it won't be any time soon.
