    Acid to convert joints??

Sounds to me like he hallucinated that explanation . Tommy D.

playing with the same cue all the time.

I've been playing with the same Schon butt since '91. The original shafts were ordered at 13.25 and wound up feeling like a brand new Predator Z by 2001 or so. They were replaced with 2 new ivory ferruled Schon shafts at 13mm but they were tapered different by Evan on request. These 2 shafts...

    Odd problem today...

On a cue where I'm adapting an old shaft to a new joint I ran into an weird error that I can't figure out. I THOUGHT I had fitted the joint collar on the shaft correctly and left it oversize,so I can later fit it to the joint in the butt. What I found when I started working on it was that for...

    Older Schon info request

I don't remember the model number, but I've heard it referred to as the "Playboy" cue, because there was one pretty similar to that shown in a 1994-5 Playboy issue. That cue was close to 2k new too. Tommy D.

    Identify a kersenbrock

I've seen examples where this wasn't a 100% rule, but I was told long ago that one of the best ways is to take a close look at the center-drilled hole in the end of the pin. If the hole was a precise #2 center drilled hole (anything with a cactus or numbered pin),it's SW. If you have an...

    Stainless Joints

Another point that hasn't been mentioned until now is probably an overlooked detail to some. Cutting a piece of stainless on what is a .010 per inch taper is easy enough with proper setup/tooling on whatever lathe you are using. Making that piece of stainless look like a mirror with that taper...

Best Way to Get Miscue Marks Off Cue Balls?

Are you talking about the bits of burnt on cloth that show up as a green or blue spot? The 3 sided nail buffers that have something like 2400/4000/12000 grit sides work real well in combination with a magnifying glass and a clean, dry rag like a microfiber type. Under magnification, you can see...

Shaft Wax ( Discussing methods of shaft maintenace )

I don't usually dig up old threads, but I contributed when this first came up and wanted to update things based on my own experience. If you like to use wax and haven't tried it,the new stuff from McDermott is a REALLY good product. It's also cheap and plentiful . Tommy D.

How would Nick Varner match up with tony cohan today?

In his prime,Nick was considered a top 1P by his peers, obviously this was before Efren's dominance in that game. I haven't watched as much of Chohan's game as I'd like up close, but Nick at his best was VERY tough to beat at ANY game, because he did so little to beat himself. Tommy D.

    cue repair lathe help/info

That appears to be a nice machine there bud :). The H channel frame it is built on is/was only available from Bassel far as I know. The headstock and motor look like Todd's stuff,no clue on the leadscrew. Tommy D.

    Rollin with "The Captain"

That is obviously a strong cue. My question is what kind of wrap blank is that? I've seen other cues with leather wraps in this pattern and kind of like the feel of it,but so far no one has been able to tell me what pattern this is embossed in. Thanks if you can help  Tommy D.

    Dufferin joint question

I'm currently working on one of these as well. I haven't messed with the shaft yet,but I can tell you the threaded brass section that goes into the butt,as well as the threaded section of the aluminum butt end of the joint is 1/2-13. The one I'm working on made a horrible noise even though the...

How often do you scuff your tip?

I start every session by touching it up,and maybe once every couple hours after that if it's a long day. I prefer the scuffer I made in machine shop school, but have several others. Over the years I'd bet I've made 500 bucks doing repairs on other people's cues after they screwed up using a Tip...

Can You Lose Your Amateur Status - Brian Parks

About the only thing I have to say on the matter is this. I can't really form an opinion on what his status is as far as as amateur or pro,I have no control over it,it hasn't affected me because I don't think I've even seen him in person,so I'd prefer to leave that alone. All I know for sure...

Some Fancy High End Native American Warrior Cues

That is an amazing group there. One of my all-time faves in this category is a cue I've only seen pics of in P+B,the Kikel "Navajo Majesty". In this modern era,I'm surprised we haven't seen hi-res pics of it yet. Tommy D.

Why greats from different era's can't be compared in greatness

I've always been of the opinion that even these days with the popularity of Diamonds and 860/other fast cloth,if Sigel was in his prime these days, his best game would still be elite, other than so many guys that could out-break him. Tommy D.

    Machine Lubrication

I'm also a firm believer in ATF on my Hightower, but I've also found something else that works quite well, esp when you consider the application method. Plain old Chap Stick ;). It might not work on anything else, but trust me it works like HELL esp if you are only moving the carriage a short...
