    Choices in Mini Lathes

If any of the machines in question are set up properly, and the operator does his job,any of the Sieg mini lathes should thread just fine. There are adjustments that can be made to the leadscrew/end brackets and the half-nuts that can certainly affect threading if not dealt with. The Sieg C3...

    Problem installing Ki-Tech tip

I've only seen one of these tips in person,a medium. This is my experience with it. A couple weeks ago I did my yearly 8-ball tournament in Paris,Tn. My first customer of the day comes up and wanted a tip put on,the medium is what he had. I used a fresh out of the package bottle of Loctite Pro...

    Installing Tips

I haven't used tape since before I had a lathe. I sand the face of the ferrule with fresh 220 and wipe it off with denatured alcohol on a paper towel before I glue the tip on. Predator ferrules and imports seem to be the only ones I need to use CA accelerator on. My tip prep is done on 2...

Need some help with identifying a wrap...

I finally saw a leather wrap that made me curious about trying to find a similar blank and try it on my own cue perhaps. This is not my cue,or my personally-taken pic of this particular cue,I just like the wrap pattern and want to identify it and try to locate it. This particular cue is a...

Any use for a Harbor Freight Mini Lathe?

That 80/20 and linear bearing is pretty slick compared to this contraption that my lathe came with,as it was set up for cue repair when I bought it used. It's overbuilt for the purpose, but I don't have to change collets with it either. I just let the shaft settle in where it wants, pull back...

Any use for a Harbor Freight Mini Lathe?

With a usable steady rest out back for the joint end of the shaft, and a little cleanup and tuning on the machine itself, you'd be real hard pressed to find a better tip and ferrule lathe. With all the stuff you can do if it's capable of threading, trust me it makes it worth the effort to get it...

    CNC Inlay

That is quite nice AND quite a bit cheaper than what I would have expected. I thought it would take at least one of the Wolfgang spindles or something closer to Perske or NSK quality to use cutters that small. Tommy D.

    Project Tomahawk ferrule material.

I know I've already raved about this stuff, and it just keeps getting better. Yesterday I went and worked my usual yearly tournament, which is also associated with the World's Biggest Fish Fry. I took a rod of Tomahawk with me along with Juma,Elforyn,LBM,and Mason Micarta. Tomahawk was the best...

    Ivory ban

I usually don't participate in this conversation, but here goes. I like animals, including elephants. I don't hunt, but have no real problem with it. It's just not my thing since I'm not in a position to have to kill my own food to eat. Even if I did,I'm smart enough to know better than go...

    Rodney Morris Cue??? Efren??

Rodney is one of those guys that I've seen play in person multiple times, and unless those times were within a few months of each other,I've never seen him with the same cue twice :scratchhead:. The first time I saw him (1994-5)though,it was a Barry Szamboti. Tommy D.

    The customer isn't always right...

I had a customer ask me to take a look at a cue he bought and see if I could reproduce a particular butt as far as the dimensions. The joint was .790 and the butt cap was 1.200 so I said yes I can make a SP with those dimensions with what I have on hand. Then he hands me a finished Scott...

Is it possible to get 2 cue tips out of 1?

I know there was at least one and maybe more people that believed that the White Diamond break/jump tip worked better if cut down thin so they were cutting the tip in half with a thin parting tool on a lathe. His break/jump cues were pretty popular so maybe there is something to it. I also...

    Project Tomahawk ferrule material.

So far I've only done 2 ferrules with it so far,one was on a scrap shaft and this one was for a customer. I haven't done a shitload of thermoplastic ferrules, but so far in my limited experience this stuff sure doesn't act like a thermoplastic. For example, the original Meucci ivory-grained ABS...

Superglue vs epoxy for ferrule install?

I've been getting great results with a quick-setting epoxy called JB Weld ClearWeld available at Wal Mart. This stuff is NOT the same steel-reinforced JB Weld you use for muffler repairs, etc, but is made by same company. It has a tensile strength of 4400 PSI,and when mixed 100% dries hard...

How Do You Maintain Your Shaft?

I have a lathe and do all my own maintenance. BUT,unless I'm resealing a freshly cleaned shaft of my own,all my maintenance is done with a microfiber rag I impregnated with a little white polishing compound and Longoni Special Wax. It doesn't get any better, trust me I've tried...Tommy D.
