    Names from the past

I'm sure I held more money for players who were gambling high than anyone else in my era. I would be running the tournament and two players would come up to me and ask me to hold anywhere from one to five thou each. I'd put it in my pocket and keep on working. Eventually the winner would come...

Her son played pretty good to, John Haggar. And liked to bet high!

    Podcast

I've been invited to appear on a nationally syndicated podcast called Too Many Lawyers (Google it). It's hosted by Royal Oakes, a well known lawyer who often comments on major legal cases and issues on television. His concept was to talk to lay people like me who have had success in another...

How long would it be ok to leave cue in car in hot humid weather?

Not a good idea for any amount of time.

Bathroom breaks at the U.S. Open

Her break was the weak part of her game. It was all arm. That is until she spent an hour with me and David Howard in Florida refining it. We taught her to use her whole body and move into it, karate style (it's in the legs and torso!). Now she had power (Jeannie was big and strong) behind her...

Bathroom breaks at the U.S. Open

I was there Fran, refereeing along with Pat Fleming. It was a surprise to see you in the finals, but from what I saw in the earlier rounds you were playing good, smart safeties and getting out with four or five balls left. Jeannie was something else. Nobody was beating her back then!

    What is your HIGH RUN?

Cool Story. My similar experience was when I was still working 9-5 as an accountant. I was 24 and making $125 a week. I'd go out on weekends (Friday and Saturday night) and hustle the bars. Could usually pick up twenty or thirty bucks. Well on this one night I found a slightly upscale bar in...

    What is your HIGH RUN?

Only happened once in my life and it was more luck then skill. I couldn't believe it either. They just kept thumping in the pocket and I was hooked again. Jason Kirkwood was an A+ player, capable of beating anyone at anytime. Everyone thought him to be primarily a bar table player. How wrong...

    What is your HIGH RUN?

I saw you run 14 for the cash in Chicago. I don't remember who you were playing at Chris'. I went home and asked Allen about you. I never forgot his response. He said, "Do you know Harry Sims?" I said yes. He said "Do you think he's a good player?" Yes again. He now tells me that you would spot...

    What is your HIGH RUN?

My high run was on Mount Wilson at 7,500 feet. I lasted about a minute and a half! I thought I saw a mountain lion. It turned out to be a small wildcat. It was more afraid of me then I was of it. I ran nine banks (short rack) on my buddy Warren Kiamco at my house with a tight Diamond table...

US Open (9 ball) 2024, August 19-24, Atlantic City

I'd say on average pretty close to the same, 40 to 50%. So the majority of the prize money was generated by the player entry fees. If they had filled the field at 256 players, the total added would have been $104,000 or just over 34% of the purse! Even so, 46% is nothing to be proud of now...

US Open (9 ball) 2024, August 19-24, Atlantic City

So here's the good news. Matchroom just dropped an e-mail stating that next year's U.S. Open would have a 500K purse with 100K to the winner! Glad to see that, with this years purse of 300K including barely over 100K in added money to the entry fees. The prize money seemed kind of anemic to me...

    Top 5 pool players ever

I'm sure of all that. Bob is nearby in Chicago so it not's too hard to get a custom cue from him if you're willing to wait a year or so. He continues to make great playing cues at reasonable prices. Bobby is not the kind to blow his own horn, but I will! If they were to make a list of the top...

    Top 5 pool players ever

Efren did more with the cue ball using his soft stroke then anyone I ever saw. Probably the most knowlegeable pool player of them all.

    Top 5 pool players ever

I ran around with Bobby when he came to Cali. I also backed him in a few spots (he won). We remain close friends to this day. In the golden era of pool here in America (1960's and 70's) there was action everywhere! There were good players all over the Midwest, the South and the Northeast. It was...
