    Keilwood cutting

Imo , 2 years minimum for completion from 1" dowels. When you get down to 13.5mm , 3 months to 13.25mm. Then let it sit a while at 13.25mm. Torrified maple is closed cell wood. It does not absorb and release nearly as regular kilned maple. That's why they are so much more stable. If wood was cut...

When you have players with perfect mechanics, it's not an impossibility. You watch this old black and white films of the late greats, you see a ton of.just flat out bad form and mechanics. Before the record was broken, I argued that the only reason it wasn't broken was because straight pool...

Meh! Efren was one rack away from 150. In his SECOND straight pool tournament. He just missed the break. If you think that's more impressive than 800+, I dunno.

    standard diameters???

Probably the most popular butt taper now is .840" joint with 1.240" bottom . One angle . Smaller butt or smaller grip ? If you like thinner grip, bottom diameter means little if the butt has compound angle . What matters more is your preference where you grip most of the time . A compound taper...

    Full splice lost art

I admire the art and skills in making those FS curs. But, in the end it still boils down to quality of woods and materials used plus tight construction ( whatever the method is ).

    Full splice lost art

How does a jump break cue with a screw where the forearm meets the handle qualify as a full-splice cue ???? Doesn't that make it a short-splice ? And add to the coring debate, the last ebony full-splice blank I got from Davis had a laminated maple core dowel at the bottom ( ebony part ).

    Opinions?

If he band sawed one of his mock ups, I'd be impressed if it has no gaps . If you use epoxy even, you better seal the outside of the tubes with epoxy and let dry for two days minimum . Woods have holes that go sideways in them ( OFTEN ) . CA is just about the worst thing you can use for gluing...

    Cue balance, revisited

Imo, players' preference of balance points is dictated by their bridge lenght and/or grip location and firmness or looseness . Those who hold their cues loosely or have slip or stroke slip might prefer more forward balanced cues . Those who hold their cues firmly might prefer their cues to be...

Cue & Shaft Construction - Do You Care?

Grain orientation is the most important factor . Not to mention how it was dried . Wrongly dried maple will move no matter what you do with it . Even if it's straight grain end to end . I've thrown away many tight and heavy pieces . Pieces that made me cry for throwing them away . Many of them...
