    Bored...

Is it just me, or does the curtain make it look like varner is holding an 8 foot cue?

    Straight pool. What a game!!

Yes- it was two innings. West had a near perfect opening break. Zuglan tried a combo out of the rack. West runs 57, ending the run with a miss on a masse. Grady Matthews was commentating, calling out West for missing on a "circus shot". Zuglan runs 48, missing a combo. West then runs 93 and...

Colin's 24-shot video, an unbiased review

I assumed it was a poorly written joke about Colin's movie making skills, not his pool playing skills.

Anyone interested in this bank game?

If you can make dead banks 90% of the time, your odds of making 5 dead banks in a row is 59%. If your success rate is 85%, your odds of making 5 in a row drops to 44%.

do you guys ever not post things here because............

That said, I know someone who posted on another board with his real name. He even criticized others for posting anonymously, saying that posting with your real name would make people more likely to be civil. That is- until he posted on a contraversial topic and began receiving threatening phone...

do you guys ever not post things here because............

I was joking. Hoboken has a small pool community, and while I'm very much a little fish in a little pond - I'm sure there are a couple of posters here who know me.

I think that's really dumb to do on an internet forum.

    Stance Survey?

    1. Are you square or sideway? Sideways- about a 45 deg angle from the cue. 2. Do you bend your back leg or keep it straight? Back leg is locked. 3. Does your chin touch the cue? Depends on the shot and the game, but typically my chin is about an inch above the cue. I think in straight...

24 Stroke Shots Video - Can you make them all?

Indeed. Given enough time and tape, I imagine I could make these 24 shots too... but you'd probably actually see me age through the video.

24 Stroke Shots Video - Can you make them all?

It's clearly more than one session: half way through he took off his pants. Thankfully the shirt stayed on throughout.

Questions about the GHOST (9 Ball )

I think a C should be able to beat a 4 ball ghost, at least. If you exclude people who've never held a cue, I think a D should win a set of 3 ball, with BIH after the break, against the ghost.

Dumbest thing you ever done. (pool related)

Was playing the other night against the owner of the pool hall. He made an incredibly tough cut into the side pocket, coming off 4 rails for position on the next shot. He looked at me and said "Nice shot, huh?" "Yeah - especially considering you had ball in hand." He had put the cue ball down...

    Luxembourg

Ha! I'm not looking to gamble, just play. By pool scene, I met getting to know other players, maybe finding a league. I forgot about Leonardo's - when I found that I on google, I had originally dismissed it because it was outside of the city. Now having visited luxembourg, I realize how...

    Luxembourg

I may be relocating to Luxembourg and I was curious if there's any sort of pool scene there? I was there over the weekend, and played in a place I wasn't too impressed with - loud music, poor table, closed at 1:00 am. The table I played on had no way to keep score, so I'm guessing straight pool...

    Sucker born every minute!

That's the problem- in reality, the risk/reward is completely out of wack in my example- Player B is essentially bet 255 to 1 on a 50/50 outcome. Unless you have an effectively limitless reserve of cash, and an infitely patient and foolishly greedy opponent, you're engaging in a sucker bet.

    Sucker born every minute!

Well, if you continually double your bet, assuming you have some chance of winning (and assuming your opponent allows you to keep going), you will eventually win back your original bet. B*2^n - sum(from i=0 to n-1)[B*2^i] = B (eg -2 -4 -8 -16 -32 -64 -128 +256 = 2) The decision becomes an...

    Snooker break and out.

Yes, I was. Perhaps a smiley would have helped. I would actually like to see a frame that isn't a maximum.

    Snooker break and out.

People keep talking about how hard snooker is. I don't buy it. Granted, I've never played it- but I have watched a few matches online, and people almost never miss! Even when they "miss", they don't miss! http://youtube.com/watch?v=RYIRyWlQ80M&search=snooker

no smoking as of 4-15... ways to get around?

I fail to see how the addictive nature of nicotine is a compelling argument that banning smoking from bars is discrimination. I understand that nicotine is an addiction... but it is still your choice to have started smoking in the first place. Plus- *you* are not being banned from bars. Your...
