End game 8-ball, what would you do?

With lagging the one ball, wouldn't the opponent simply sink the one and create a stalemate? Is the 8 frozen to the rail, with the 10 frozen to the 8? If so, perhaps playing the 1 into the short rail, to carom in off the 8. If you make the shot, the 10 should come off the 8 enough for a shot on...

What would you do? 8-ball in dire situation

Well, I know the move Jude tried, and liked it a lot. Had it worked, the odds would still have been against him, but improved dramatically Knowing the opponent in question, this was a good assumption.

    How would you play this?

So if you pot the 8 ball, you lose 9-5. If your opponent runs out, you lose 10-5?

    How would you play this?

The first options I'd consider are Kyle's and this one: * Depending on how close the 10 is to the side pocket, I'd freeze the 8 on the rail, just past the point and take the foul. What are the VNEA rules? Could you sink the 8 ball, take the loss, and be one ball back instead of two? That...

    Amsterdamn Billiards/ Manhattan this weekend

The last time I played at Broadway, the woman at the table next to me chose to play the entire Wayne Newton collection in the juke box. God it was awful. She was also walking around the table barefoot, with an ice cream cone in one hand and a bottle of bud lite in the other. Unsurprisingly...

    A funny Story I thought I'd share

A friend and I were watching a guy warm up at a tournament. He was bending way over the table, and using his fore arms instead of the triangle wood thingie, and getting a pretty decent rack. My friend commented "would you be a little intimidated by a guy who can do that?" "Nah. I dunno - it...

Jude Rosenstock reaches his limit ...

Judging by his liberal use of the letter "U" and a failure to pronounce the CH or the D in "schedule", I'm guessing he's well acquainted with English slang.

How much do you hate losing?

I hate losing- but not quite as much as I love winning.

why do you prefer the game you do?

That is a good way to describe it. i'm new to it, but straight pool has quickly become my favorite game. I like the strategy and faster nature of 8 ball, because it makes it possible to be a team game, but what you describe is one of the many reasons straight pool would rank as my #1 game right...

One of the many reasons I stopped shooting pool in bars

I did that once... My opponent, after losing 4 straight had just run 6 balls after my break (he hadn't run more than 2 all night). I bet him he wouldn't get to shoot again. He laughed, and bet everything in his wallet. Fortunately he was a friend of mine, and only had 20 in his wallet.

    Did I just get Hustled?

I think you need to check your math. For 13 coin flips, there are 16,384 possible outcomes. Of those, in 572 (or about 3.5%) there will be 10 heads. The correct formula is N!/X!(N-X). 13!/(10!*3) = (13*12*11/3) = 572 Regardless, this has no impact on the probability of an independent coin toss.
