    reaction I agree, the chemicals could be causing the reaction. I have never had a problem with those good layered tips. Just use a real sharp utility blade along with some of PaPa's 409 (spit ;-) for burnishing. Then I usually hold a piece of leather against it til it shines right up! Larry
