Mark Wilson on sidespin to pocket balls

Like straightline indicated, this was instruction, likely for less than above average players. General Population discussion. His key statement was "don't use English To Make a Ball" It's OK to use English for position. We all know that spinning the ball complicates things. That's all he...

Anyone know of a Diamond ball cleaner stand?

If you do what Gar says, you'll need to block it to prevent it from walking. They move a little. Maybe just a carpet tile will do the trick.

A Great friend of US 3C dies today

A few decades ago I was traveling to LA on business. Harry Sims tells me I should look up Allen Gilbert and gave me his phone number. I did contact him and we met at Hollywood Elks Club. George came sometime later and after we quit playing, they invited me to dinner. Geo and Allen treated...

    Advice On This Shot

Agree but the hit is so thin. Will the OB travel 8inches? Just asking, I don't play enough pool to be any authority, plus I need to see the shot in real life.

    Advice On This Shot

What makes these games great is there's shot that are counter intuitive. I'm in the camp or outside and throw, but I can see with a little masse with inside you can hit the backside of the ball. More complicated IMO for sure. I suspect there's players that could, but would they? Tricky stuff.

    I’ve a new found obsession with 3-cushion

My story: I transferred to SIU Carbondale, IL in 1973. I was required to live in the Dorms. There were 2 Iranians next door and one enjoyed playing caroms. Stepping back in time: When I was around 8 years old my oldest brother introduced me to caroms on our bumper pool table. Fast forward...

How often do you see your local players with a really good, and solid Pre shot routine?

We'll have to talk sometime on this. Would like to do this face to face, if you know what I mean. My problem with this is there's no looking at the shot and stepping into it. Are you saying even have our body against the table, bend down and shoot the grip takes care of everything...

How Do You Get Out Here?

I just tried the setup on my carom table but I put pretty much Max Draw and just a hair of Right and basically got the same pattern/path you got on most of those attempts. The difference IMO between your attempts and mine is draw doesn't take as much cue tip speed as with follow. It will...

How often do you see your local players with a really good, and solid Pre shot routine?

I don't agree that the grip puts you over the shot line. Maybe I misunderstand your statement.

    power draw?

I'm just waiting for the thread to die off, then read from who I think have something to say that advances Discovery. I don't have too many years left to perfect new discoveries. Sure having fun chasing that ball although. Slow and controlled back swing is what I'm discovering at the moment...

Who built Schuler cues after Ray Schuler passed away, and were they good quality cues?

I don't know all the particulars but what I believe is that Jacoby got licensed to sell Schueler cues under that name. A Very Long time employee of Ray Schuler's shop was given Permission by the Schuler family to carry on the joint design. That would be Noel Mendoza. He signs his cues "Schuler...

Summer is here....who is responsible for WARP IN TRANSIT

My Dieckman cues didn't go through 18 years of turning. But maybe from squares to round then cut to a general shape then rested for months and years before finished. All my shaft wood were 20 years and older when I purchased them new from Dennis. I believe he originated the phrase "River...

    Schuler Question

I found a Hoppe Pro cue that needed joint and ferrule work, plus I wanted 2 new shafts. I sent it to Noel and he built the new shafts with the Schuler joint (metal pilot) and the original shaft came back with the Schuler design except with a Hoppe style wood pilot. He did a great job on...

    Chalk on The Rail

We're We're both too old to change our habits. Early on in my learning/lessons I was told to pick up my chalk and put it in my pocket. 3C of course has rules about chalk on the rail, pool doesn't as far as I know. The only bother I have is there's a piece of chalk in my way... So I simply...

    CTE Aiming

Very basic answer to the OP No, CTE doesn't say a 1/2 ball hit makes every shot. The beginning setup/alignment is a 1/2 ball view. Then pivot the tip left or right depending on the shot. I'm no expert but had 3 very long conversations with Hal Houle on the subject. The length of the lesson...
