I don't know about playing 1 pocket, but i'm pretty sure that watching others play 1 pocket is about as much fun as getting waterboarded. I bought a TAR weekend once $35 for some 8 ball, some 10 ball and some 1 pocket and after watching almost 12hrs of 1 pocket i started buying TAR days...

Yes, teams are good. The mosconi cup is popular and has people cheering for their teams and they play known games just fine. The team concept is a good idea, the whole bonus ball angle still has to be proven.
