    Unforseen benefit of TOI

This may be a matter of semantics, but on your TOI CD, which I have watched 3 times, while breaking from the right side of the table you state that you are putting a little bottom right on the cue ball. I can understand that this deflects the cueball directly into the one ball, but my question...

    Unforseen benefit of TOI

I forgot to add that another big benefit for me was breaking using TOI. Beating the ghost is much easier if all the balls are spread out after smashing them.

    Unforseen benefit of TOI

Speaking of making adjustments - last night in the APA 8 ball league, I played the last match on an adjacent table (2 matches simultaneously so we could finish early). This table had a red dot cue ball, which I know is lighter, and either I woke up on the work side of the bed yesterday or the...

    Unforseen benefit of TOI

After re-reading my post, I don't think I described my delima. In your DVD you say that in cut shots with over a half ball hit, you should aim center to edge, not center to center as you said in your earlier post. I very much look forward to your discussion of longer shots and TOI. Thanks, WW

    Unforseen benefit of TOI

He is probably over on the aiming section using more left brained analysis along with PJ and company. Yeah, go for that exact spot on the cue ball - that's the ticket! :grin-square:

    Unforseen benefit of TOI

I don't understand your comment concerning long extreme cut shots. BTW, the trouble I was having with long shots was shooting off handed. But, indeed, may last stage of learning TOI is the long medium to extreme cut shots. I believe this will just take some more practice, and some more...

The APA should try these improvements

Yes they should - its called startegy - or dumping. Stupid captains want to play there strongest players first. These idiots are easy pickins. I have seen this happen too many times. They usually always get dumped on and end up with egg all over their faces especially since a lot of these...

The APA should try these improvements

Nice idea but I think this is too rigid (I have actually seen teams with ALL SL4s - then watcha gwanna do?) Let's say that team A has the stronger SL7. Team B should be able to take an 0-3 hit by dumping its SL2 on Team A's stronger SL7. Then team B can use its SL7 to match up against SL4s...

The APA should try these improvements

When its the SL2s's time to shoot, they get the BIH if they so desire it.

The APA should try these improvements

I played in the ultimate sandbagging TAP league also. In 1999 my team won the Ralley in the Valley where all 52 states sent teams to compete. Teams had APA SL7s playing as SL3s. It was ridiculous. In the TAP league, SL2s are shunned even more than in the APA league because you guys have the...

The APA should try these improvements

Yes, more timeouts without BIHs would slow down the game. But, in conjunction with BIHs, the games for the SL2s would actually speed up drastically. Each timeout should only last one minute or less anyway.

    Unforseen benefit of TOI

Actually, I wasn't kidding at all. Whereas I used to make 2 out of 10 shots, with TOI I am making 8 out of those 10 shots. Okay, I yield - that's 400 % (8/2). I learned to shot off handed using the stroke trainer. An SL7 in APA 8ball, I could beat my wife 100% of the time at 8 ball, and she...

    Touch of Center

For the first two years of my pool career, I shot with NOTHING but centerball, top, and bottom. I started playing pool while I was in college. With centerball, I ran 42 balls in my second year and got to be really proficient at the game considering I played only 6 hours per week. Soon after...

The APA should try these improvements

Due to the new scoring system, SL2s are losing popularity since they are most likely to lose 3 points against higher skilled players. Teams are going to start ditching SL2s in favor of having more SL3s and SL4s, and accordingly I think the APA will suffer. Here is what I suggest the APA to do...

    Unforseen benefit of TOI

My offhand shooting has improved by 800%. I cannot play the length of the table shots yet, but playing on a half table I just started firing the balls into the pocket with no sweat. Heck, I can even draw the cueball because my stroke has loosened up with the gain in confidence. My pockets...

Conversation and good people are still alive in this crazy world at least in Roanoke

Joplin was either running his construction company and back then was the owner of the New Wood - hottest place in Roanoke with only one bar table. Mexican Joe and One-Eyed Jack came there in 2 week intervals and each ran 13 racks of 9 ball, taking all of the local's money, including Red Terry...

Conversation and good people are still alive in this crazy world at least in Roanoke

I was born and raised in Roanoke. The late 60s and early 70s featured The Sportsman in downtown Roanoke. Guys and Dolls did not exist on Williamson Road during this time period. Guys and Dolls started out in Vinton, Va. (my home town) and moved out to Williamson Road in the 70s and stayed at...

Did anyones game get better after getting a predator?

Totally untrue. Predator does NOT have zero deflection. It does however have less deflection than a standard maple shaft. Ask Mike Massey if you don't believe me. In my friend's basement Mike demonstrated this by shooting from one end of the table to the other end - with a non LD shaft and a...

Best way to practice 8 ball

Good post. I would add to your list one other important thing to consider - and that is skill level of your opponent. A lot of idiots here will believe that you must 'play the table' and 'not the opponent', but in 8 ball this is not the case at all. i.e. if you are a low level player...
