How does your high run compare with your average?

AFeller, very glad to know you're here, and Thank You for making such a nice app! i'm going to start a separate thread on Note14-1, so's not to hijack this one, and also because i think more people should know about it, and comment on ideas.

How does your high run compare with your average?

one of the things i like about using the iPhone app Note14-1 is that it spits out stats like this for me. i was having a crummy night last night: high run of 22 was the only inning over one rack, jarred the pockets a Lot, the balls were sticking like glue, and the white one was like a psychotic...

    Fury 14.1 Tournament Phase Updates

whoa, folks -- let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater, here. i gave $500 to this event -- not exactly chump change -- and i am pissed that Mika & Charlie bailed. but it's not productive to punish the Event because of bad player behavior. i'm hoping that Charles and/or Steve will...

What do you think is the reason for so many good pool halls closing?

i can tell you what makes some rooms Stay Open: customer focus. the Second time i ever went into Ivory Billiards in Holyoke MA, the owner who'd met me exactly Once a week before said "hey Mills, how are you doing tonight?". a few weeks later, the same kind of personal care from his...

    2012 Fury 14.1 Challenge Day 1 Recap

John Schmidt had a 127 at around 9p on Saturday, which was the highest at that point, but i missed the later action Saturday night.

    For anyone thinking about videos.

very sorry to hear of this, having enjoyed your videos and learned an incredible amount from them. enough to make a contribution directly, which i would encourage others to do who have also enjoyed your videos. i'd guess you've already checked this out, but is there any benefit to putting them...

What video camera do you use?

iPhone 4 on a GorillaCam tripod. don't laugh if you haven't tried it, it works great. the tripod goes in the zippered section of my case easily. as good photographers say, the best camera is the one you have with you.

    Jumping into a cluster

Ron, the jump shot break you describe (again, i can't see the chart) is diagrammed in one of the classic 14.1 books, i can't remember which one, but i don't think it's Capelle's, which i just re-read. so maybe Byrne's?

    new video from Derby

the Mika one is great to watch. it does not include the 156, which was prior to the play shown, but it is interesting nonetheless. although a bit alarming to watch Mika's patterns or lack thereof. he's the best 9-ball/14.1 move-the-cue-allover fornoreason exceptbecauseican so nyahnyah player...

    Three matches from Derby

thank you for posting these, Dennis! reminds me how much i enjoyed Dan Wallace's commentary throughout that action room stream. and very enjoyable matches, some of which were fragmented in the stream, if i remember right, so especially nice to see them whole and at better res.

    new run for comment

wow -- thank you for the annotated analysis, Steve! at the end of the first rack [Reference #1], i had actually tried to get on the 1 ball to shoot it in the lower left corner, because the other 2 were a good kb/bb pair, in either order (although the 5 was the best bb). if i could've gotten...

Steve, there's little danger of me moving up in the ranks from this video! but i do look forward to your comments if you get the time to see it; i realize life is busy... and yes, i'm definitely planning to get to SBE and spend a Lot of time around the Challenge, and hopefully meeting you and...

    new run for comment

Dan, i hear you, and your comment made me think about this a lot as i traveled to a sound gig tonight. some of my thinking went along the lines of percentages of success rates. i might not make that break shot 10 out of 10; i'll bet i would 8 out of 10, though. and there's No Way i'd get...

    new run for comment

thanks, Al! i actually did try to get on the 6, twice, to get at that 15, but each time i was on the wrong side of the 6, and given My cue ball moving skills, decided i'd end up snookered instead. each time, i wanted to be towards the center of the table more, so i'd be either straight on the...

dude, you So have me nailed... that was the wobbliest, most indecisive stroke of the inning -- it's amazing the ball went in, much less i ended up in position. thank you for spotting the psychology behind the shooting!

hey, Michael, thanks for the observations; they're welcome from all quarters, all levels; i have a lot to learn, and i found out in other fields that i often learn important things from people who may not think they know so much, but have interesting insights. heck, that's why *i* say stuff...
