scratch w/ object ball in kitchen

thanks! knowing that rule would've made my life a lot easier, because a spot shot on the other ball would've left the ball near the pocket as useable break ball from almost anywhere on the table, and a very good one from almost half the table. unlike the one i played for, which was tough to get...

scratch w/ object ball in kitchen

last night a rules question came up that Seemed like it should have a special rule, but i can't find one. with 2 object balls remaining, both in the kitchen, my opponent scratched. as far as i can tell, this means it's a bad roll for me? as luck had it, one of the balls was close enough to a...

    interesting stroke discovery

thanks to all for the continued thread. i'm glad to see that others have been getting some inspiration from this! and i've been meaning to report back from the earlier help you all gave me. here's what i've changed: approach stance from behind a la Jerry Breisath, per Dave's suggestion here...

Corey runs 229 at Marop's house

Dennis is right; i would put the chances of the virus being due to the video at slightly below 0%. Vimeo is really tight. re: the pockets: i have to say that i noticed the pocket action in some of Bill's other videos, and was quite surprised to see the photo that Dennis put up, where they are...

    Help me like 9 Ball

i started playing in 1965, and we played 9-ball only for money, and straight pool otherwise. i was somewhat better at 9-ball, but thought it was really dull without some money down. then i left the game for 40 years, started up again 3 years ago. to me, 9-ball is checkers, straight pool is chess.

    Lucasi Uni-Loc issue

i think i May have doped out what the issue is here, and it could well be User Error. again, the problem seems to be brass from the bushing accumulating on the steel pin. there are 2 things i do which probably aggravate the situation: (1) when i clean my cue, i always leave it lying for a...

Corey runs 229 at Marop's house

wow -- did you See that? in rack 4, he played an along-the-side of the rack break. [!] and then Again later, 3x in 16 racks! seriously, that must be a record for number of below-the-stack break shots in one inning. since i shoot those better than side-of-the-stack, i've been thinking i should...

    Lucasi Uni-Loc issue

again, the threads have nothing to do with this, it's the smooth part of the pin binding in the brass bushing. the joint unscrews just fine; the pin won't pull out.

thanks, Chuck, i'll give that a try!

    Lucasi Uni-Loc issue

i'm pretty sure there's nothing left in there, Chuck. i used a swab with denatured alcohol, then blew it out with breath, then another round of the alcohol to make sure i wasn't leaving any moisture in it.

    Lucasi Uni-Loc issue

thanks for the input, everyone. just to be clear: the binding is happening with the pin in the bushing, not at all while unscrewing. which doesn't mean the screw threads aren't part of the problem, because they could be producing the metal flakes. i'm not too interested in adding oil to the...

    Lucasi Uni-Loc issue

i've got a Lucasi Hybrid with a Uni-Loc quick release joint that's been sticking so that i can't get it apart, except by using extreme force. it's happened 3 times now, and each time i've followed the directions i found in an old thread here: to clean it out with denatured alcohol. and that...

    interesting stroke discovery

thanks, Fran. it's nice to have a big shopping basket of ideas to choose from, knowing that i may not keep them all. the hard part, of course, is knowing what things feel wrong or don't work right At First because you've been doing it wrong for so long, but are really good ideas, vs. the ones...

    interesting stroke discovery

hmmm. well, that experiment didn't go so well. tried using Tim's alignment technique for about 1.25 hours tonight, but it seems like a step backwards. was frequently missing to the right. i think i have enough on my plate right now with the new stance Matt has me in, stepping into the shot á la...

    interesting stroke discovery

Hey Tim, that makes a whole lot of sense, is clearly described in a way i can understand and implement, and i haven't heard setup described that way before. it would seem this would reduce tendencies to move your arm/elbow, since they'd be in a more natural position to start with. just to back...

    interesting stroke discovery

thanks for the encouragement and further tips! Fran, you really have me pegged; last night i missed 2 easy shots (including the one that ended the long run) and one easy position that were all clearly rushing. so anything i can incorporate that will cut that down i'm game to try, and i like...

Phil Capelle's new book " Break Shot Patterns"

for any of you in touch with Phil, the video clip of Mika is only 7 seconds long, likely an editing or uploading error. the others are very nice, and i look forward to the analysis here!
