Interesting Insights from Rory Mcllroy's Psych Doc

Nicklaus occasionally relied on Jack Grout for advice, but didn't really need it. Nobody else, other than short pitching. Nicklaus did get some advice from Phil Rodgers on that. But he didn't need psych coaching.

Interesting Insights from Rory Mcllroy's Psych Doc

No, we rely on talent and experience, not psych coaching. So did Jack Nicklaus, who has the record 18 major championships. Champions don't need psych coaching.

    How is this a Joss?

Haha! I think if someone offered it to me for free, I'd decline. There's only so much space in my closets. Then again, I'd be tempted to clean up that ferrule, and put a respectable tip on it. But there's only so much lipstick you can put on a pig. It'll be interesting to see what it sells for.

Interesting Insights from Rory Mcllroy's Psych Doc

Well, I don't think I would hire Rotella as a psych counselor. I can only imagine his talk with McIlroy went something like, "Look, try to give it away. Miss as many short putts as you can. You really don't want this."

    How is this a Joss?

Wow, a custom Joss, one of one. They committed to never doing this cue again. Oh boy...

    How is this a Joss?

Yep, agree. Times have changed. In the early Joss years, if you wanted to spend 300 to 350, you'd get a beautiful window design in the buttplate, a ring above the wrap with some kind of pattern and inlay, and some inlays in the points. Now, 300 to 400 doesn't really get you much. We're...

    How is this a Joss?

Oh, ok. I thought it had sold. It's not doing that well. Ending pretty soon.

do the pros outweigh the cons when using quality shaft wax?

Opinions vary, but I can't imagine the need to put wax on cue shafts. Sooner or later it's going to get sticky. The old masters finished shafts with sanding sealer, finished by either very fine sandpaper, or steel wool. I get just as good results with Cue Slick after the finest sanding...

    How is this a Joss?

Yours is mid to late 70s, earlier than Chopdoc's. If you bought it used, the leather wrap could be a replacement wrap, as they generally did not do leather wraps in the 60s or 70s. If original, this would be a pretty unusual Joss with the leather wrap. All the best, WW

    How is this a Joss?

There are so many collaborations among cue makers that would make people's heads spin. I've said it above, but the combination of Joss, Jim Rempe, Sigel, Varner, and Helmstetter did more cues for each other than most would comprehend. You just have to have been around a long time and have seen...

    How is this a Joss?

Good info. I wasn't sure whether Falcon cues was still in business. They were pretty active in the early 2000s, I remember that. They were a sponsor in the tournament circuit I played, Planet Pool, which was in the Mid-Atlantic region. By teaming up with Dan, I wonder if any were built in...

I know you're not in Daytona, that was just a reference point. I haven't heard the term "incel." You may have to educate us. Reminds me of the days driving down to Daytona when I would actually take a cue with me. It would either be a Sneaky Pete, or a McDermott from the D Series. You and I...

You know, that sounds like the perfect evening. It does remind me that the pool cue, the golf club, and the gun...... Well, they are more accurate than we are, though we tend to want to blame it on the instrument. It's usually on us, rather than the instrument. Yeah, the Mali with the...

Good moves. I have tried carbon fiber shafts, but have not bought any. They are definitely very straight hitting. But, being an old school guy, I like wood, as you do. I do have good things to say about Mezz, and Predator shafts, and I use both. I probably like Mezz better, as they have...

That's not exactly aftermarket. But I know what you mean. I think some of my Scruggs shafts are worth more than most cues, as they were built in the right era.

It's funny, as we get older, I get the feeling we prefer aftermarket shafts. I have a closet full of cues and shafts. The original shafts, a lot with ivory ferrules, they look great. I play with them now and then, but I find myself playing with the aftermarket more often, regardless of the...

Marry it with an aftermarket shaft, it's probably a decent cue. I'll go $55. Nah, just kidding. Don't need more cues.
