Anybody have any idea on the possible value of this cue? I've seen so much fluctuation in value and not really being able to identify this cue in the catalogs I saw.
I disagree. Third catalog Model #8.Looks like a Model D, Second catalog, however different shaft collar rings. From the factory in 1973, the Mode D was $70.00.
More now, though depending on condition, straightness, etc.
Yep, points indicate that as well. Probably still started at about $70 or so.I disagree. Third catalog Model #8.
Yeah, but this one is used.Yep, points indicate that as well. Probably still started at about $70 or so.
Marry it with an aftermarket shaft, it's probably a decent cue. I'll go $55.Yeah, but this one is used.![]()
I knew it. Dementia finally setting in.Nah, just kidding. Don't need more cues.
An aftermarket shaft on a vintage Palmer?Marry it with an aftermarket shaft
Well, we never know if and when it's coming, but when the redhead decides you're better off to her dead than alive, then I get the Joss cue in the middle. If I'm still alive...I knew it. Dementia finally setting in.![]()
It's funny, as we get older, I get the feeling we prefer aftermarket shafts. I have a closet full of cues and shafts. The original shafts, a lot with ivory ferrules, they look great. I play with them now and then, but I find myself playing with the aftermarket more often, regardless of the vintage of the cue.An aftermarket shaft on a vintage Palmer?
Well, OK, it is 3rd catalog, I guess that could work. I mean, you could put radials on a 57 corvette but...will it handle right?
My wife got teeth and a wig, so you can spruce up an old performer. Just be careful.
OK, nails too. But the gazoombas are totally real. It's funny, as we get older, I get the feeling we prefer aftermarket shafts. I have a closet full of cues and shafts. Teeth and a wig? That's all the aftermarket on the redhead? I doubt that...![]()
That's not exactly aftermarket. But I know what you mean. I think some of my Scruggs shafts are worth more than most cues, as they were built in the right era.OK, nails too. But the gazoombas are totally real.
Yeah, I actually have been playing with an aftermarket shaft on my Joss for the last few years. It's a Scruggs shaft.![]()
Probably banging his head against the wall, wondering what the hell he was getting himself into.I wonder where the OP went?![]()
Yeah well, I still don't own a single "engineered" shaft...yetThat's not exactly aftermarket. But I know what you mean. I think some of my Scruggs shafts are worth more than most cues, as they were built in the right era.
Good moves. I have tried carbon fiber shafts, but have not bought any. They are definitely very straight hitting.Yeah well, I still don't own a single "engineered" shaft...yet
Looking at trying CF, but something in a wood tone color would make me feel better.
I won a beautiful Predator off a guy playing 9 ball something like 14 years ago. He went all in and put up his cue. Apparently it is a hot item now. I traded it even for an early McDermott cue and It's George case. I was and am happy.
Ah. Yeah, and this thread is like our personal chat. Well, he's the new guy. Asking value. Identifying and appraising is a service that people pay money for.Probably banging his head against the wall, wondering what the hell he was getting himself into.
I look at such things like the women I dated. Probably mostly too good for me. I am way past dreaming of being so much better than I am. The cue is already better than me. But I am curious. I may try something.Good moves. I have tried carbon fiber shafts, but have not bought any. They are definitely very straight hitting.
But, being an old school guy, I like wood, as you do. I do have good things to say about Mezz, and Predator shafts, and I use both. I probably like Mezz better, as they have more the weight that I'm used to. Once you get used to these kinds of shafts, you do tend to prefer them, with the lighter end mass. Glad I don't play this game for a living though.
You know, that sounds like the perfect evening. It does remind me that the pool cue, the golf club, and the gun...... Well, they are more accurate than we are, though we tend to want to blame it on the instrument. It's usually on us, rather than the instrument.I look at such things like the women I dated. With that said, I took my daughter to play pool last Saturday. I let her use a beautiful old Mali. We played 8 ball, of course. I broke and ran out my second rack. She thinks I am a wizard. That's golden. She had a date with some retard a couple weeks ago, I didn't need to kill him or anything, he's just a simple idiot. They went to the pool hall. Anyway, she had a lot more fun with me, and I took her for a good steak dinner after. The redhead said I did a good job.
