    Playing pool in the Philippines

I lived in Angeles City in the Philippines from 1979-82 and played almost everyday. Jose Parica was the Philippines champion at that time and Efren was from Angeles City and had not came to the USA yet. My friend Joel, a Filipino rack boy who worked at the club on the air base, mentioned Efren...

Best All-Around Production Cue for ~$1000 (Value, Playability, Durability, Support)?

I have had one since they first came out and I have three shafts for it, including the original white ones. I have two Becue cases, the extension, and the weight system. They play very good and solid. I think a carbon butt paired with a carbon shaft feels better and plays better than a carbon...

Which are your favourite quotes from players?

It isn't as funny now, but it was die-laughing funny when I heard it said while I was watching two old guys in a gambling match back when I was a kid working in a pool hall. The guy who was winning told the other guy, "You play pool like old people f#ck. Everything in but the balls." The...

What does Merry Widow mean in a cue ?

Yes. I had John make this cue. It is cocobolo with a sindora burl handle and it is cored with purple heart. He made three shafts for it and an extension. The top and bottom cues are Jackpots. The top one is ebony with a camphor burl handle that was cored with purple heart by Larry Vigus...

Soft hitting custom cue maker cues?

My first ivory-ferrule cue was made for me by Richard Black back in 1978. It was an ebony four-point that looked exactly like a Balabushka. My second cue from him in 1981 had ivory ferrules, as well.

I know this been ask before about one piece cue? But who got a one piece cue hidden away in a Bar or Pool Room?

The cue that I fixed up with the LePro tip from Jack Taylor was a Brunswick ebony 21 ounce house cue with a 14mm shaft. That was the same specs that he had on his. In those days, most places had lousy A/C, if any, and slow cloth, which made moving the balls a lot harder than today; especially...
