Are there any Brunswick 7’ tables with superspeed cushions?

I use to recover pool tables and I seem to remember that the rubber on Valley Pool Table Rails were a little smaller the full size Super Speed or the K66 rubber. I'll ask a guy that use to work at Imperial International to confirm.

    Bizarre situation / rules question

I'm not going to fault the TD but do not think it is logical to call dropping the cue ball into a pocket a foul. It's not in the rules but I think a foul occurs while the player is addressing the cue ball or after the cue ball is struck. Is it a foul if I accidentally or intentionally drop the...

    Who is Jack Hines?

For the longest time I have been thinking about telling some of my pool stories and it is amazing how many players never reached their potential because of drugs. In the late 1960s or the early 1970s at the Billiard Palace that Vern's Peterson opened, Richie Florence played Billy Johnson three...

Are there any books about the "Life" in a pool room or about one of the great "Action" pool Rooms?

This is one of the story I heard from Arnie Satin, one of the owners of the original Hollywood Billiards when it was in the basement of a Art Deco building on Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood California. Please remember it wasn't unusual for Ronnie to be involved in a dispute during a game...

Are there any books about the "Life" in a pool room or about one of the great "Action" pool Rooms?

That sounds exactly what life in the pool room is like. In the late 1960's the talk in the pool room was that "Tracy Joe Salazar" was the best bar table player with the big cue ball. The oil boom was big then and Joe said he won $50,000 playing in Oklahoma and Texas.

Are there any books about the "Life" in a pool room or about one of the great "Action" pool Rooms?

Steve Booth's reply mentions that local coverage about a place or individual will offer more detail than a book. I was 19 when I first saw the action the Billiard Palace and because I just started playing pool I didn't realize I was seeing something very special. I saw the action a Lambert's...

Are there any books about the "Life" in a pool room or about one of the great "Action" pool Rooms?

Thank you for the replies and everything I have read only mentioned the highlights. I think the stories on AzBilliards are better than anything I have seen in print.

Are there any books about the "Life" in a pool room or about one of the great "Action" pool Rooms?

I have seen articles and books about, how to play, where to play, the history, and about players but I would like to more about the rooms that had the most pool action. I had just started to play pool when I went to the Vern Peterson's Billiard place in the late 1960s. I do not remember the...

Anyone remember the name of a small room in Chicago 2 Gold Crowns for money games and billiard tables

Does anyone remember a Caucasian lady with short blond hair when I saw her, who would often show up at the rooms with the biggest money games. I think she was middle age and sometimes she would gamble. Her name might have been Clair.

    Gamblers....Old Bite/Copy Past

I posted this answering a guy who wanted know about guys that were barred from a pool room. Is sounds like the guy is writing a movie. Gamblers....Old Bite/Copy Past

"Players" in Van Nuys California was set up for pool players. I do not remember the year but it had to be the early 2000s. A large crowd had gathered because Efren was scheduled to play a match. I do not remember the opponent but Efren and his translator arrived and his opponent was not there...

Anyone remember the name of a small room in Chicago 2 Gold Crowns for money games and billiard tables

I want to thank Bob Jewett and mr3cushion for confirming that the room was the Billiard Cafe and that Frank Van den Bosch was the owner. I cannot emphasis enough how nice Frank was to me. I was a stranger and those of us who have spent time in the pool room know you have to be careful. I would...

    Gamblers....Old Bite/Copy Past

I just remembered what are two great nick names, oddly enough both guys were named, Harry. The first was, "Whispering Harry". He got this name because when you saw him taking to someone you had to be right next to him to hear what he was saying. The other guy's nickname was, "Beat the Price...

Anyone remember the name of a small room in Chicago 2 Gold Crowns for money games and billiard tables

It was over 22 years ago and I think the room was nicer that the room you suggested. I was in Chicago for business and whenever I traveled I would look for one of the pool rooms where the better players like to play. After I spoke to the owner for a few minutes the owner, whose name I am trying...

    Gamblers....Old Bite/Copy Past

Three of names from the list are mentioned in this story. In the late 1960s Freddie Whalen sponsored the World 14.1 Straight Pool Tournament at what used to be the Elks Lodge on what used to be Parkview Terrace just West of MacArthur Park near Downtown Los Angeles. Even though most of the top...

    Gamblers....Old Bite/Copy Past

It was the late 1990s. I did hear that the airlines now make you check pool cues. This is scary, I have some expensive cues and you hear about lost luggage all the time.
