Correct I do that. Plus it has been mostly the other layers after the cue is sealed.

I got an answer back from Dennis. It was what I was thinking. He said the original wrap was thicker and the tape raised the groove for the wrap to be flush. The jagged cuts softened the rise.

I am doing a re-wrap on a Dennis Searing cue. I have a question on what’s underneath. At first I thought it was masking tape but it is too thin and isn’t sticky. It peeled off easily. It almost felt greasy under the jagged cut paper. It might be wax paper and it is wax not grease?? Any one know...

Bare wood. The first coat of base I use a glove to press into the pores.
