Hi Jayman, Here's the link to a large CF manufacturer in China that has more sizes of cue shaft blanks than I ever thought of. It's a large website, so by scrolling around, you can learn a lot about how they are made. HTH Gary...

    Extending wrap

The problem I've run into with this operation is when using speckled linen. The original installer gets a certain pattern going as they unrolll the linen off of their spool and onto the cue. When you try to add linen to on that, it's hard to get the speckles in the same pattern and so the wrap...

    Tip install techniques

As KGoods mentioned, teflon plumber's tape will work, but I find it difficult to apply. I have a tip centering device that holds the tip while the glue sets. As soon as I set the tip against the ferrule, I do a quick wipe around to clean off any excess glue. Players get pretty protective of...

    Tip install techniques

IMO you have the installation written correctly. I don't scuff the end of the ferrule, just make sure your lathe is set up correctly to get a flat surface perpendicular to the axis of the cue. I don't use any tape on carbon fiber shafts. Even painter's tape can pull the coating off of some of...

    Few starter cue builder questions

Welcome to the cue building hobby. It can be a lot of fun. But being a hobby, there is very little concept of making a "wage". Since you joined the forum, I assume you read the rules - you may ask for sources of materials, but posting sources in the forum is against the rules, so people...

whitch foam to fill carbon fiber shaft

Hi Neil, One of the purposes of foam is to add some weight to the shaft. What do you do for weight control? Just wondering, Gary

whitch foam to fill carbon fiber shaft

I use a two part foam. It only takes about 1 oz of each hardener and resin. Mix together for about 20-30 seconds and pour into the hollow shaft. Of course, you have to have one end plugged in advance and ready. It's a quick operation, so be ready!! Gary

Looking to attach a chuck to a motor

A chuck would likely chew up the end of the shaft. Maintenance pins, as Chuck suggests are a much better choice. But for cleaning only.

    Pad between tip and ferrule

Well, since this thread has turned into a discussion of Bullet Proof tips . . . I like them and all of my customers who have tried them like them too. I have never had one pop off. FWIW, I use Loctite 401 cyanoacrylate glue - it's industrial strength CA and no, you won't find it at your local...

    Revo vault plate

You can use any material that you would normally use for a ferrule. Tomahawk, Juma, Isoplast, and Elforyn come to mind. Why do you want to replace it?

    3/8 - 10 Shaft Inserts

Inserts exist, but as stated above, it is more common to cut the threads directly into the shaft. You can use a threadmill if you have a CNC setup, or 3/8-10 taps can be purchased. You can cut the threads into bare wood, or make yourself a phenolic, or hardwood (like cocobolo) insert to tap...

What to put on the ferrule end of the shaft to prevent chalk from sticking into the wood?

Tom, Just wipe your cue off with a towel at the end of the night or more often if you like. CF is not porous, so chalk dust can't get into the grain or pores.
