    5 rail one-pocket break?

If you're having trouble with balls leaking out, you could just break the 2nd and 3rd balls, trying to clip the 2nd one just like in the normal break. You can even do it with the 3rd and 4th balls. But first, try sticking with the normal 1st and 2nd ball break, but move the CB to about 1...

Let's Make Sure There's a One Pocket Hall of Fame Dinner This Year @ DCC!!

Your experience is your own and I can't question how you see it. I can say that I am far from anyone's definition of elite and I've never felt like my input was denigrated or unappreciated. Also, what's with mocking the WWYDs (by others, not in Jay's post)? They're a fraction, albeit...

Let's Make Sure There's a One Pocket Hall of Fame Dinner This Year @ DCC!!

I was at the tournament and had a great time. I would say there are probably four people who were each critical to making it happen. Disco Dave and and Steve are two of them. LS John and Jeff Sparks are the other two. That's why I said "co-organizing." I think the successful group effort also...

Let's Make Sure There's a One Pocket Hall of Fame Dinner This Year @ DCC!!

Steve runs a great site and nothing is off track for him that I can tell. In fact, he's fresh off co-organizing a great one pocket tournament in New Orleans. You were annoying and basically never actually posted about 1 pocket in your time at 1P.org. Mr. 3C was annoying and occasionally posted...

An open conversation on what pool in North America needs and can support.

I think this has some of the better ideas so far, IMHO. I'll add one that I think goes with it nicely: good production and editing. Golf on TV is made interesting by showing multiple groups, with a small number of focal groups. If they just showed every minute of play for a single grouping for 4...

    Tips for organizing a tournament

A bracket can only move as fast as the slowest match, so keep an eye on laggards and if part of the bracket gets behind, make sure you are ready with the next match right away to catch up. If you do double-elim, there are more matches in the losers side than the winners, so you want a shorter...

    ** bonus ball **

    1. I enjoyed the game. And having teams was a great idea. Google Thorsten's big run if you want to see how much skill the game demands. 2. But yes, the execution was totally botched. They could have saved money and drummed up more interest by doing the first few years as a traveling event...

    Suggestions to Improve Tornado Open

I've always thought a pro-am blind draw scotch doubles tournaments would boost fun and increase attendance. When you buy a ticket, for say $10 or $20 extra, you get a lottery ticket. 32 audience winners get picked and paired randomly with a pro. Then have a short race tournament mostly for fun...

Jayson Shaw victim or defeated foe

I see what you're saying. At the same time, the 10 did have a clear path to the pocket, and Earl did point at the correct hole. So I see some wiggle room as to whether it was "obvious" or not. That type of cut is not extreme by pro standards, and there was no billiard, combo, or bank. I'm not a...

Jayson Shaw victim or defeated foe

UPDATE. From the video at https://www.facebook.com/jayson.shaw.77 (about 1 minute in), Earl certainly did say "2 ball" but he also pointed with his cue at the pocket the 10 went into and then fired the 10. So Earl clearly said "2" but clearly intended "10." Tough situation. I like to say I...

Jayson Shaw victim or defeated foe

I don't doubt what you heard at all. But can you sketch or describe the "out of the stack shot" that could have made the 2-ball by thinly cutting the 10? I really don't see it, but 14.1 isn't my game.

Jayson Shaw victim or defeated foe

I didn't see this, but is there any chance that Earl said "ten" quickly in a southern accent and Jayson, with Scottish ears, thought he heard "two"? If Earl trails off a bit and doesn't clearly say the "n" at the end of "ten" then it could be misheard. Anyway, I don't see how Earl would have...

That was in the Mosconi Cup, maybe 10 years ago. I agree, more phenomenal. However, he didn't get out that time!

Man playing as woman at APA nationals

If you stop thinking about whether a tournament should let someone in who is dressed as a particular gender and instead think about someone who lives their entire life as a particular gender, you might see things differently. People like to post about the former, but this thread is about the...

    How would you play this?

I think I would clip the five and take the cueball underneath the 8; 13 comes about a diamond uptable. Not much he can do from there beyond a long rail kick and your balls will be open. If at the table I was convinced the 5/13 would double kiss, then I'm overcutting the 7 and bringing the cue...
