Is betting on pool legal in your state?

If Poker is a game of skill, then surely pool is? http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/22/nyregion/poker-is-more-a-game-of-skill-than-of-chance-a-judge-rules.html My non-professional understanding is that betting on yourself in a game of skill is legal. Betting on yourself in a game of chance like...

    Playing pool with progressive lenses

In my last eye doctor visit, I was amazed to learn that progressive contacts even exist. They do, and they're awesome! Previously, I still preferred contacts to glasses for pool but the problem was that my contacts were optimized for about 5' away, making it tough to see the edge of balls up...

    Mosconi Cup Team Captain

Are you volunteering? You understand the game, have a winning history, and are widely respected, and seem like a no nonsense person when it comes to winning and losing. People these days think of you as a one pocket expert, but around DC the old timers refer to you as 9-Ball Billie!

What is league night for you?

Most likely, you're not paying table time but you would be if you weren't playing league. So if you get 2+ hours of actual play in then you may be coming out ahead. For you, I would pick the league that let's you play the most--e.g., one at locations that offer a practice table. You'll likely...

    Houston pool rooms?

West side of Houston is pretty barren pool wise. Clicks is probably your best bet: http://clicks.com/texas-houston/ but no Diamonds. Bogies West is a bit farther from I-10/Bingle but not too much farther and the tables were in good shape, at least as of a year ago (also no Diamonds, as I...

Where to play Snooker in Virginia

It's true, there's at least one (I think only one) snooker table there. Long ago, there were complaints that it was not a safe place to go but that seems to be well in the past now.

fargo rating by username and disrespect towards top players

That would be interesting and give context. However, Fargo ratings require real names but many of the posters you describe don't use their real names. And like Jason said, many people (including me) don't have them.

I'm quitting APA😞..Lost the local APA Championship last night

Sounds like if you bear down and don't make mistakes then you expect to win. Maybe you actually are better than them? This is one reason I actually like handicaps in league. Many people like to complain that less skilled players should nut up and play even races. That might be good for them if...

I'm quitting APA😞..Lost the local APA Championship last night

You may be right that you shouldn't be an 8. Even if other parts of your game are 8-speed, you can't give anyone that kind of edge and still be the favorite. Work on your break! Also, it might make people more receptive to your coaching if you stop hitting them with flying cueballs.

    Ugly Fact-

Joey -- Do you think the crowds were quieter in the 1990s when the US dominated? That's not my recollection. I think you may have to look somewhere else for the explanation.

Does the prevalence of one-pocket hurt the overall pool game in the US?

I'd love to see it. Maybe Accustats could pull off an international teams Make it Happen event?

Does the prevalence of one-pocket hurt the overall pool game in the US?

Canada has, IMO, the best 1P player--unless he counts as Filipino.

I think that's the shot leading into one of the (or just "the") most famous kicks of all time!

Does the prevalence of one-pocket hurt the overall pool game in the US?

Reasonable theory but I agree that it doesn't hold up. Mike D. essentially doesn't play one pocket (I recall he did will at DCC one year) I don't think Rodney plays it a lot. Shane plays 1P but clearly spends the majority of his time on 9/10 ball. I think Justin plays a fair amount of...

40k Derby action ! Oscar gettin down!

Flyer says best of five, races to 17. So it could in theory go 165 games. Not quite a race to 100 but still quite long.

How the Mosconi Cup attitude parallels modern American liberalism.

    1. OP is in the wrong forum for this. 2. Skip100 is 100% right. Maybe that explains the user name?

Putting Mosconi Cup "pressure" into perspective

Playing for other people is a different, and for many, harder, kind of pressure than rising and falling on by yourself on your own skill. I believe Albin meant what he said.

    MOSCONI CUP LIVE (Score Updates)

Ok, USA is getting some rolls now! We'll see if that's enough. Nice billiard by Skyler on the 1, followed by a really pure long straight shot off the rail in the next rack! 3-2 USA.
