Would one of the makers give some insight into the performance properties and engineering of the butt of a cue?

Didnt someone do a blind joint test at one of the conferences years ago? Taped the joint and had players hit and rate the feel of it. Most could not guess which joint was which but the 3/8 x 10 flat faced joint was an overwhelming favorite. Feel and playabilaty is like taste in fine wine, beer...

    Bob Cad

This is exactly why I have version 20 with a crack file. Load the software on any computer and run the crack file and it is fully unlocked. I bought version 18 and it was very buggy till they hired someone that knew how to program microsoft apps. I then bought verson 20 and later came across the...

    What type of tenon?

Go for it. You will need a lathe of some sort. If you dont have one go to a proper repair person and pay them to do it right.

Would one of the makers give some insight into the performance properties and engineering of the butt of a cue?

Basicly it is my opion that the but of the cue is the highly decorated part that acts as a handle to push the shaft with. It also adds weight and balance but not much more than that. Play-ability is in the shaft profile and joint. Just my take for what it is worth.

    Pool Cue Finish ...

I used Automotive clear coat for a while with great success but was worried about the health issues associated with it. Tried UV for a while but that was not as easy as it sounds. Settled on a water based clear poly from General finishes but now am having problems with adhision and pealing. Also...

    No lathe tip job.

If it was only made of carbon fiber it would go viral.

Is this cue lathe worth buying?

I have that lathe without the tail stock extension setup. Got it for under $1000 shipped from ebay. It works great for tip, joint, and butt work. I did add a HighTower chuck to the left end of the spindle and a 6 jaw chuck. However there are some things that you can expect from a machine in...

Joss cue, what's going on here

Automotive in the summertime heat will pop and leave tiny white bubbles in the clear coat it it gets to warm or is on to thick. That might be what you are experiencing with the previous finish you are sanding off. I always use a sanding sealer of some type to seal the wood before spraying the...

Cueman deluxe vs Unique products cue maker

I have owned both and the big difference is the Head Stock chuck. HighTower uses metal jaws. They sometimes need to be adjusted for run-out. You can get a 4 jaw scrolling chuck and it is easy to change them out. Hightower lathes can be set up to taper butts and shafts with the router attachment...

    Metal lathe for tips/Ferrule?

I bought one of those a year or so ago ... it works ,,, using it more and more. Add one of Chris Hightowers left end chuck and you are good to go. I installed a 6 jaw chuck on this one. It will do anything but taper. Some of the negative things I have found: The power feed is gear driven and...

    Linen wrap question ...

I do thank you for replying to my question but fail to see the connection between ski tow rope and linen wrap thread. Yes they are both twisted fibers but I dont think it would be practical for me to spool the thread into a bucket prior to its one time use to wrap onto a pool cue. Anyhow if I...

    Linen wrap question ...

Mike Rys, your idea on a Lazy Susan alowing you to spin the spool of line in either direction to twist or untwist is an interesting one. I can see how having that ability could be very helpful. I wear a leather glove and keep a lot of tension on the line to wrap tight. By the end of the wrap...

    Linen wrap question ...

But Kim, isnt transferring the linen to a reel the same as transferring it to a cue butt? Something is causing it to twist as it comes off the spool. That is what I do not understand ... what is causing it to twist.

    3/8-10 pin variants

It looks like one of your cues had a pin that is about one thread longer than the other two. The depth of the taped hole in the shafts should be deep enough so that that small difference should not matter. However if the cue maker made that shaft to fit closely to the end of the pin that might...

    Very Silly Question

Stress is to be avoided. Vertical or Horizontal should not matter if there is no stress or pressure on the butts and shafts. In the shipping containers coming across the sea, in the warehouses, and in the delivery trucks they are subject to heat, and humidity. Most of that time is spent in the...

    Linen wrap question ...

Linen thread will twist badly as it comes off the spool in the vertical position. That is why I have it in a holder that keeps the roll horizontal and it feeds off as it unrolls. As I get to the end of the wrap it starts getting very twisted before it gets to my hand. If I release the tension it...

    Tip popping off

I have installed a lot of clear and colored acrylic pads between the ferrule and the tip. I flat sand the pad with 600 grit just like I do a leather tip. I then wipe the end of the ferrule with a paper towel and a bit of Acetone. This removes any contaminants and I think sorta etches the...
