    Thicker shaft produces more deflection?!

Johnny, doesn't the bending of a wood shaft have an impact on deflection? If not, what's the point of a laminated predator or a carbon fiber shaft?

    Thicker shaft produces more deflection?!

A friend who follows this forum regularly has just informed me that it is accepted wisdom that a 13 mm shaft will produce more deflection than the 12-plus shafts currently popular. Is this true, what is the explanation for it? Seems to me tha,; all other things being equal, a stronger piece of...

    Straight Pool Rules Question

Good question(s). I figure the only alternative to making a legal foul is to incur a foul that constitutes unsportsmanlike conduct, which would presumably incur a penalty assessed by the referee, or a warning. But the rule books seem sorely lacking on the whole question.

    Straight Pool Rules Question

    Trophy Points

Can anyone tell me what Trophy Points mean in the context of this forum? I assume it's explained somewhere on the site, but I can't find it. Thanks.

    Jumping up on shots, reconsidered.

Thanks, Jay. Couldn't agree more, but my post was speculating about why one sometimes jumps up.

    Jumping up on shots, reconsidered.

That's fascinating. Gotta experiment with that.

    Jumping up on shots, reconsidered.

(Editing this on Tuesday.) Thanks for all the responses, but I must not have been totally clear, so I'll try to clarify. I understand that jumping up is not a good thing, that after contact it's a moot point, and that some great players move on the shot. No arguments there. I'm just curious...
