Why running English for multiple rails kicks?

Yes, I agree. But I think the 0.98 in the paper refers to the ball-rail COR (doesn't consider the ball sliding/dragging/rolling on the cloth). So I guess after all, it's still plausible to have .98 COR, interesting!

Why running English for multiple rails kicks?

The highest is actually 91% on a slick table

Why running English for multiple rails kicks?

In the end they say the COR of ball-rail impact is 0.98, which is a bit too high. But I could be wrong

Why running English for multiple rails kicks?

Will a sliding CB into 1st cushion give better result than just use top+running english? Because after 2nd rail the CB will pick up running on it's own

Why running English for multiple rails kicks?

I'm just curious about the physics that go into the common practice of putting running English on multi-rail kicks. I don't mean to dismiss PJ's diagrams and explanations. I love them all along! I just want to ask questions and get real knowledge both theoretically and practically.

But this is not the rebound angle (measured immediately after rebound) right? It's the total effect of CB curving because of top spin plus the rebound angle.

Thanks for the paper! I'll read it:)

Why running English for multiple rails kicks?

Thank you so much for the awesome discussion on physics! I have a couple questions. 1. Do you mean that the exit line is closer to the perpendicular to the rail? Since the rotational energy of CB can only come from translational energy, and it is the velocity component of CB parallel to the...

Why running English for multiple rails kicks?

If that's the case it seems like no English is better, since the path is more ideal

Why running English for multiple rails kicks?

Sorry I didn't explain myself clearly. What I mean is, if you kick without running spin, the outbound line off the second cushion will not be parallel to the inbound line of the first cushion, and because the CB picks up running English, the outbound line off the second cushion will . But if you...

Why running English for multiple rails kicks?

That's cool! I've not met one who doesn't use running English on kicks

Why running English for multiple rails kicks?

What do you mean by "The propulsion of the english always has the same effects on rail entry and exits"?

Why running English for multiple rails kicks?

Hmm, interesting! I don't think that side spin would make the cue ball follow the target ball. It's probably because the cue ball is rolling on the table already, and it will follow the object ball after it hits it.

Why running English for multiple rails kicks?

Thanks Bob for the detailed answer! So my oversimplified thought on this is, as you pointed out, that since the CB picks up running English just because of it rubbing on the cushion, it will have running spin before hitting the second cushion. So, if you kick without running spin, the angle of...

Why running English for multiple rails kicks?

Genuine question: When you kick by feel, do you use running spin? If so, why is using running spin better than plain ball?

Why running English for multiple rails kicks?

I know this might had been asked before but I couldn't find it. Why do we use running English for most multiple rails kick shots? I know that if you don't then you can't use the system, but is there a physical explanation? e.g., 2 rail kick using the plus system, 3 rail kick using the...

Cue Tip Contact Myth-Busting Truths in Super Slow Motion

So, if it's a straight on shot. All the linear speed is imparted into the OB right after impact. Then in this case "quality of spin" = "angular speed", right? Then to quantify the quality of spin, it's a matter of calculating the resulting distance the CB can travel determined by it's angular...

Cue Tip Contact Myth-Busting Truths in Super Slow Motion

I have a question not about this post, just about spin rate. When we talk about quality of spin, what is the quantity that is being measured? Just the angular velocity of CB or the (angular velocity)/(CB speed) measured right after impact?

I like how you are using more and more modifying clauses on the phenolic tip to avoid potential comments haha.:ROFLMAO:
