    couple of newbie questions

One of my favorite drills is the Jim Rempe’s "Brainwash Drill". Spread all 15 balls out on the table take ball in hand and run them off the table. No fouls and no rails are the parameters. Once you have done this try and do it without hitting another ball either. Here is an example...

    New League

Just wanted everyone to know the 14and1.com Nationals will be at Red Shoes on September 15, 2012. Running a league with seven or eight players lasts 14 weeks putting you into August, plenty of time to get into the finals. Andy Walker

Now that things seemed to have died down... VERY VERY long post be warned

Charlie and Steve, I know of no endeavor that goes off perfectly. I and others appreciate the initiative and time you put into this event. I will be here to support the Challenge next year. Keep up the good work. Hit 'em where you want 'em to go! Andy

    Fury 14.1 Tournament Phase Updates

Charlie and Steve, I, too, was disapointed at the lack of a finals. I think the plan you outlined is workable. There were other things at SBE that I was disapointed with but not the challenge itself. The fact that pros disrespect the game and fans is, unfortuneately, part of pool. I offered...

Hitting the side of the rack for a safe

This is one of the shots I work on in practice. It is amazing how soft you can hit the rack in the right place and get the balls slightly apart and one to a rail. ALWAYS check the rack for loose balls it can make a world of difference in how and if the balls come out of the rack. Andy

    What is your average run?

I guess if we are talking about average runs and not BPI then we have to establish just what a run is. Is it having a transition ball from one rack to the next? More than five balls, ten maybe or is it when you get to the fifteenth ball? When we kept track of innings and safety play if all you...

    What is your average run?

I played in a league and we kept track of innings, balls made, safeties, fouls etc. My average for the 15 week league was just over 4 balls per inning, my lowest week being 2.23 bpi and my highest week was 8.7 bpi. Sure there are lot of partial rack runs as well as multi-rack runs but my...

Can anyone run 100 with enough practice?

Oh yeah, that makes me feel better? How do us mere mortals ever expect to get to 100??? Andy

    Table care

Avoid the Black and Decker you linked to. The vacuum opening is only about an inch wide in the center of the mouth. The center pulls out to get under the rails but that is all it is good for. I could not find the one available at Lowes online but here is the Shop Vac equivalent...

    Safeties Around the Rack

I had a new player to the league. He is a great barbox player but had never played 14.1. He had no idea about safeties so after his match I showed him these. The camera just happened to be running after his match. Thanks for watching. Andy

    Straight Pool Variation?

I like playing by the original straight pool rules before 14.1 continous. Play out all fifteen balls and then rack all fifteen and play the cueball from where it lies to play safe. It really helped my safe game and adds some variation to the game. Andy

Which break ball position do you prefer?

For me it would depend on where the cueball was left. With a shallow angle I would prefer Ball "A", for a steeper angle I like position "B". From parallel to the break ball I prefer "A" but from closer to the lower long rail I prefer "B". Andy

    14.1 Score Sheet

Score sheet Here is the sheet I made for a league I used to shoot with. (I modified it to make it a pdf file from an Excel spreadsheet.) This allows you to keep track of average, safes, failed safes, fouls, innings, balls made etc. You can keep track of as much or little information as you...

    Moving a pool table (2)

Car dolly: http://www.harborfreight.com/2-piece-vehicle-dollies-67511.html I have moved a 9 footer on movers dollies. First time was a disaster, I ended up seperating a slate seam and had to redo the table any way. Second time I used four bottle jacks and 2 x 4 cribs and brought the table up...
