there shouldn't be.made by the same person,they should be the same.the tool steel wears faster but it's still imperceptible with the amount of cues i make.between Alex and myself,we made 60 cues or so last year and ours didn't get any smaller. i might go for the carbide if they were only $200...

i would be afraid of it splitting lengthwise,along the grain. i don't trust it either.

not sure why you expected better,it's what he does. i like concentric tool steel mandrels at 10% the price.

it is prone to cracking and very expensive so cue makers don't use big pieces as a general rule,but i have seen it done with mixed results.

too much denatured or leaving it on too long can melt the glue too much,or i feel like it might so i always wipe it down with the milder naptha afterwards.

i use 220 or 320 depending on the amount and depth of scratches,then wipe with denatured alcohol followed by naptha.the denatured is just hot enough to remove some scratches.
