    the chess myth

Spot on. Top chess is a combination of superior pattern recognition, calculation skills, experience, intuition, knowledge/study, and memory. No one has mentioned that there is no luck in chess, whereas there is always some element of luck in billiard games. Besides, I think chess and...

    boys dressing badly

Yeah, but pool has a more sophisticated, diverse, and less rural clientele than NASCAR has :) Maybe we should revert to the snooker dress code of the 1980s and all wear suits, waistcoats and bow-ties?

3-ball and 14:1 - how do they help you?

Hey All, I keep seeing these two games touted again and again as those which will likely improve your game most if you play/practise them. Can anyone shed some light on this? I) Why does 3-ball improve your all-round billiards game? i) What is the best way to play it? (e.g. against an...

    Bad loser?

I saw a guy go nuts and unleash a litany of swearwords and threats to his opponent. He then broke his cue. He had to be restrained. Amazingly, he was allowed to continue in the tourney without penalty.

    I SUFFER from Performance Anxiety

    It's a beta-blocker. I took it about 10 yrs ago and it's helpful. It won't loosen your limbs/muscles though.

    I SUFFER from Performance Anxiety

I had MAJOR performance anxiety for the first 2-3 weeks of my league session. I wasn't at all used to playing with 14 sets of eyes watching my every move. But after I'd lost a few matches, seen teammates lose some, and generally got comfortable with the environment and protocol, the major stuff...

Try TAP! The fastest growing pool league in the country!

Hi Scott, interesting idea. It would no doubt appeal to many pros, but I'm sure would put off many amateur players, who after all, make up the vast majority of pool players. Besides, how do you call a ball on the break? Are you calling to state which one you're hitting first, or which ball...

Try TAP! The fastest growing pool league in the country!

    - See post #51 for an opposing view - IMHO 10-on-the-break in a pocket other than the two rack-near corner pockets is a fine compromise, just adding to the break that slight extra element of chance to those it already has ** Anyone know what % of games the professionals make the 8-ball on the...

Try TAP! The fastest growing pool league in the country!

Erm, don't these rules also apply in the APA? Besides, don't they also make the game of 8-ball more interesting and less predictable? AFAIK even the best breaker will only make the 8-ball on a small percentage of all his breaks. Among other things I think it encourages players to improve their...

**Reminder** Always keep an eye out for your cues

I usually take my most valuable items with me - e.g. wallet, cell phone, keys - when taking a bathroom break. Even at my local league. And I keep an eye on my valuables like a hawk when at the table or the bar. I cover my cue case with my jacket and pack away both cues before leaving sight of...

    Av. APA Skill Level?

For 8-ball. I've heard different views on this. Some say it's SL4, others SL5. Anyone know? I know in my league, around 2/3 of all players are SLs 2-4. Also, does anyone know if there is a difference between the average SL of men and women players?
