    Chip Tournament

To keep it simple in our room (and to try and get things done in an evening) we have it broken down based on APA skill levels, since the majority of folks here play APA. SL6 and above gets five, SL5 and below get seven. That's just one example, obviously. If we had more time, I think it would...

how are ya'll doing in league ?

I'm with you on not pulling out a rulebook... tho I do understand the reason for the change. Sadly. I've seen way too many people throw that "do you want to talk about it?" line out there... I looked it up, it is in the current rules: (Coaching, pages 28-29-30) d. If any member of the team...

how are ya'll doing in league ?

Now to be fair, this is perhaps a local bylaw, but I think its National. Anyone can still call a timeout, has never had to be Captains only. It's just now if someone does the "do you want to talk about it?" thing... that triggers the timeout. The side can refuse the player asking, without...

how are ya'll doing in league ?

Our 9-ball team finished the session in first place, which was cool. Playoffs began last night, we were comfortably ahead, I was chosen to play the 4th match, so long as I didn't get smoked, we would be fine. I've had a decent session in 9-ball, compared to my 8-ball session. I played another...

how are ya'll doing in league ?

APA has amended that policy, so that anyone from the side asking the player if they want a time-out, HAS to take one. If the player asks the side for a time-out, the side can refuse and tell them to shoot what they want. The reason is far too many unscrupulous folks would have their player...

    Stupid Questions about Bridge Cues!

There was one room we used to play in that had a large number of tables and a small number of bridges. I had an open spot in my cue case so I threw in my old starter cue, department store Excaliber fiberglass beauty...it was black so it didn't look like any of the house cues or house bridges...

    It’s not the league

It all depends on your skill and your definition of getting better. If you're a 650 or higher player, playing league, especially APA, isn't gonna do much for you beyond keeping a cue in your hand some. You're not likely to find many (if any) your ability to match up with, so the best you'll...

    Problems playing certain people

There are a few folks rated the same APA Skill Level as me that I struggle against historically...obviously, just because we're at the same Skill Level doesn't mean we're the same ability, but I've played well against other players that do well against these folks, so it's safe to say we're all...

    It’s not the league

You get what you make out of it, which is true of pretty much anything. Will playing APA lead you to high level competition? Probably not. But for average folks, it can be just fine.

Scheduling conflict- Matchroom Hanoi Open and Reyes Cup clash with Predator World 8-Ball Championship

That is just not going to happen. US Cable TV stations aren't going to invest in covering a pool tour. If by some crazy chance Fox Sports 2 or some lower tier cable network takes a chance on it, it will air over night or some such. But maybe, just maybe, a streaming service that is...

APA sudden death question. I'm confused.

Last night, the match between our SL3 (the slow one, lol) and the other teams SL2 was 48 innings, in three games. This is normal. Had they gone hill-hill, it would have easily been over 60 innings, maybe 70. 🤷‍♂️

APA sudden death question. I'm confused.

Oh, I certainly know about the innings...and at one time I had one SL2 whose matches were almost all over 50 innings. It was 8-ball, which probably takes more innings per game, especially for beginners who don't break the rack open very well. If she went hill-hill... A couple of sessions of...

APA sudden death question. I'm confused.

I've seen many matches go far, far longer.... (those had to be SL1's, going to 14, SL2's go to 19, before someone jumps in and starts flaming, lol) I've had 8-ball matches between SL2's that have gone over 50 innings, and that's a race to 2, lol

APA sudden death question. I'm confused.

Without shot clocks, that is impossible. There's already too much "rule mongering" as it is, and even the pro's don't have shot clocks in the early rounds of major tournaments, much less beginners like those who make up the bulk of the APA. And I think the general intent is to try and keep...

APA sudden death question. I'm confused.

I had to adapt to this the hard way the one time our team went to Vegas. I should have held one of our stronger shooters for last, to have a better chance in the sudden death match...We lost our first match out there cuz I only could play a SL3 in the last match. It was our first time out...

Deliberate foul query - 8-ball (and brief tournament experience)

Of course, its bad enough here with all the different variations of "rules", let alone in a whole other part of the world. It just seems odd to me that they will play safeties, and ball-in-hand, but not let you intentionally foul. Then again, there are many so-called rules here that I fail to...

how are ya'll doing in league ?

We're near the bottom in our 8-ball league, so last week, we threw me against the other teams SL7, rather than countering with our own SL7. My opponent was a good friend (who I met here on AZB) and we had a fun match. He beat me, but I did get to the hill, and I had my chances. Alway fun...

Practice 8 or 9 more often

I usually spread the balls out fairly evenly across the table, and them run them like 8-ball, alternating suits on a miss. Occasionally I'll set up and practice 9-ball racks, usually on league night when all the balls aren't on the table, the unused ones still in the tray.
