    Top 10 Hack Attacks

Another one. This one not nearly as bad as most mentioned here but last weekend I leveled and recovered an Ebonite 9 footer. This one had 1" unframed slate with the cloth stapled to a wood strip surrounding the slate edges. As I reached under to strip the old cloth out of the side pockets I...

    Top 10 Hack Attacks

Lots of paraffin wax... Another homeowner install gone bad. I was asked to setup an old Gotham table by one of my pool teammates who had set it up the last time and broke it down to install a rug in his cellar. He told me that the cue ball jumped on breaks and wanted someone who "knew what he...

    My new Omen...

Just snagged this on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=160168111787&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=006 It arrived in perfect condition. Kudos to the seller for the fine packaging too. It took quite a bit of effort to screw on the shafts so I decided to email Pete Ohman...

    Can anyone identify this cue?

Still don't know who made the cue.... but I have it in my possession. Definitely not a 'cheapo' cue as phinmole stated in the listing. Hits as well as any of the SP's I have except maybe for the Scruggs. eBay seller phinmole (Felix) was no problem to deal with for what it's worth. I'll try to...

    Pocket close-out. How many cuts?

I have no problems with closing out corner pockets since they are basically a 1/4 of a circle. The side pockets however are nearly 1/2 a circle and I was wondering how many cuts you guys make to close them out? Just putting it out there. If this has been discussed previously let me know as I...

    Table Set-up

Here's what the BCA has to say about the subject: "POCKET OPENINGS & MEASUREMENTS (Cloth covered rails): Pocket openings are measured from tip to tip of the opposing cushion noses where direction changes into the pocket. This is called the mouth. Corner Pocket: Mouth Between 4 7/8" minimum to...

    Staple Gun

Duofast 5018A I just got one but found it drove the staples too deep so I decided to use my old Arrow T-50 electric to get the Simonis on my Medalist. Is there a way to adjust the staple depth?

    Popped seams

Breakers in Cromwell. There wasn't a LOT of damage, but moving the tables caused some.

    Popped seams

Business is pretty good partly due to APA league play and partly due to another room larger romm that went out of business a while back.

Got a crappy table and a few questions.

I'd say the least expensive thing you can do to get some action off the cushions is to make sure the rails are tightened securely. A loose rail will be dead regardless of the rubber mounted on it, and it won't cost you anything to sock them down a bit. Just a thought.

    Popped seams

I fixed a couple of the popped seams today and the seam roller worked perfectly for flattening the beeswax. The $1.50 was well spent!

    Popped seams

I will definitely let you know how I made out. Thank you!

    Popped seams

Thank you for that information. I was thinking along those lines and it's nice to get some confirmation. I was thinking of using a wallpaper seam roller to flatten the beeswax if necessary. Greg

    Popped seams

My local pool emporium was beset with some bad luck awhile back when the sprinklers in the establishment above went off and started dripping from the ceiling onto the Brunswick Gold Crown III's below. In an attempt to save the tables the firemen moved some of them out of the way by picking them...

Finishing Pockets w/o Staples or Cuts?

There's a real perfectionist for you. Actually there are staples but you can't see them. The pocket is closed in the normal manner and another piece of cloth is stapled on above the first staples and then flipped over to cover everything and then stapled to the bottom of the liner. The 'Green...

    How tight?

I guess I'll just use the "snug" approach to put together my cues. It's not the ones with the metal joints I worry about but the one with the pin which goes directly into the wood of the shaft. My "Mad" Bob Griffin cue is the first one I've had with such an arrangement and I don't want to mess...

Starrett 12" level: How level is level?

I've installed 5 or 6 tables using my Starrett 98-12. If you have allowed the slates to rest on the frame for 24 hours or so and are not installing the table on a spongy floor you should be able to get those slates level within 1 tick mark. You'll need to sample 4 to 6 positions on each slate to...

    How tight?

This may sound like a dumb question but can anyone here share a rule of thumb for how much torque should be used when screwing a cue together? I want to make sure that the cue functions as one piece while at the same time not do any damage to the joint. Any thoughts?
