Popped seams

My local pool emporium was beset with some bad luck awhile back when the sprinklers in the establishment above went off and started dripping from the ceiling onto the Brunswick Gold Crown III's below. In an attempt to save the tables the firemen moved some of them out of the way by picking them up by the skirts. 4 or 5 of the tables now have a noticeable ridge where the seams meet. The owner has requested that I try to rectify this situation due to the increasing number of complaints he is getting from the customers.

I can understand why the seams have popped and would like to know of anyone out there can offer a procedure or solution that could fix this without removal and reinstallation of the cloth. One thing I have going for me is that the original installer used beeswax to seal the seams, which will be definitely more forgiving than Bondo or plaster of paris would be.

Any thoughts?

There are a lot of variables but hopefully this may help...

Check the level on each individual piece of slate. Find the highest point and if its on your seam your probably in trouble. Try to tighten your railbolts in hopes that it may shift your seam(carefully). If its on the edges or ends you may be able to put a drive shim underneath the table and shim the seams to level.

If you have a problem with the beeswax coming up try to roll a deep well socket across the seams vigorously but careful not to damage the cloth. The socket will push the wax somewhat flush and should help the problem.

Kudo's to the fireman... They really didnt have to do that.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for that information. I was thinking along those lines and it's nice to get some confirmation. I was thinking of using a wallpaper seam roller to flatten the beeswax if necessary.

I've never used a wallpaper roller so if it works maybe I should invest in one. Let me know how it goes. Hopefully you don't have to pull the cloth off.

It's actually called a seam roller with a wood wheel that's about 1" wide. It works great if you ever need to use or reuse rubber featherstrip. A couple of bucks at lowes, home depot, etc.

I fixed a couple of the popped seams today and the seam roller worked perfectly for flattening the beeswax. The $1.50 was well spent!

That's good to hear... How is your room's business? Everyone is crying the blues here. The colder weather has helped as of late though.

sorry to hear about the sprinklers - which room was it? hadn't heard anything in the area.

Business is pretty good partly due to APA league play and partly due to another room larger romm that went out of business a while back.

Breakers in Cromwell. There wasn't a LOT of damage, but moving the tables caused some.

glad to hear the damage was not much - played out of there once and the owners were very nice to the players :)
