When I'm working with a student and we're working on Banks. I like to refer it to Pinching it in to the rail. On that particular shot. :) Here is the example of the shot that we have worked on in class.

First and foremost when shooting off the rail, make sure you start with the ferrule on the cloth (rail) and finish with the shaft on the cloth(rail). Keeping the cue as level as possible any elevation will cause the cue ball to jump. Try it and let me know what you think.

Whitewolf don't be to concerned with the speed. Work on your timing and accuracy. the speed will come. The break rack is an excellent training tool! I use it in class when my students are working on their break. By the way 18-20 mpg is the average breaking for most males.
