10-ball rules: Miscue on the break, rack not touched?

In 1992, there was a rebreak, but the rules were still spotting balls and the cue ball was in hand behind the line. By 1997, the official rules were ball in hand anywhere for an illegal break with no rerack. So.... The potential 3-foul from the break situation has been official for about 30 years.

When are MISCUE and SCOOP Shots Fouls?

Either I don't understand that rule or (b) allows most jump shots that are seen in pool. (Also, in (c) I think they mean "another" rather than "the other".)

10-ball rules: Miscue on the break, rack not touched?

There was another one where the breaker was not so well known. Maybe on the stream chat, someone said he was cheating with the initial miscue to get out of breaking -- strange comment. And then he lost. I think the rule is a nice reminder to learn the rules, and it doesn't come up that often...

When are MISCUE and SCOOP Shots Fouls?

There is a video of Bill Werbeniuk miscuing over a red to pot a red by mistake and no foul was called. Of course that was long ago and maybe the rule has been tightened. And it's legal at snooker to jump over a ball after the cue ball has struck a ball, which is sometimes used for position play...

10-ball rules: Miscue on the break, rack not touched?

One went by about a year ago. There was a lot of confusion and comments. As I recall, the breaker kicked to a good hit on his third shot but scratched.

Amazing high-run by Quyet Chien Tran in Finals of Houston tournament

Usually, if you are watching a YouTube video on your laptop/desktop you can copy the link text and then paste into the posting. Maybe there's a way from your phone.

    Stencil placement

Look at how they are placed on tournament tables (on videos). I think it's really up to where you like them. You could put them on temporarily with tape before you go permanent.

QATAR WORLD CUP 10 BALL, OCT. 28 to NOV. 2, 2025

The latest stream had Yannick Pongers as the English commentator. He does a good job. Edit: that may have been Quinten Pongers who was a commentator later on.

There seemed to be no scheduling issues. Single elim helps a lot with that. Four days was a good length.

Heyball may be included in the 2032 Brisbane Olympics

Presumably (but not certainly) it had been around for at least a few years before then, so 1985 is a reasonable start date. That looks like C8B and snooker.

Byes don't count as matches. One guy in the finals got a bye in the round of 128 and one guy didn't. Biado had two byes (or walkovers) in the first two rounds, and then lost to Manas in the round of 32, so he is listed as having one match.

Heyball may be included in the 2032 Brisbane Olympics

At a BCA trade show, I had a very interesting discussion with someone who does a lot of business in China. If you take all the people who play cue sports -- pool, snooker, English 8-ball, pyramid, carom, and heyball -- most of them play heyball. I hadn't really heard of heyball until about...

QATAR WORLD CUP 10 BALL, OCT. 28 to NOV. 2, 2025

I think it's an improvement over some previous events. Visually, it's a lot better than the single camera in a vast arena. I wonder if there is any distribution beyond the stream. In the mean time, Fedor wins 9-8, with a very nice rack to finish.

The person in charge of the graphics has only a slight acquaintance with its operation and features, such as "current shooter", "balls pocketed", and "timer display". At some point during the Ruslan/Ameer match, the clock beeper started working. Ruslan loses, 9-6

Heyball may be included in the 2032 Brisbane Olympics

The way event announcement works is that a few years before the Games, a short list of possible added events is announced. There is some amount of mulling it over and maybe getting reactions and then the final list of new events -- if any -- is officially announced. At one point cue sports...
