    Throwing Your Cue....

There are plenty of shots where the cue stick won't come anywhere near the stack or the balls after the shot. I think Dave's idea is one for some shots, not every one, and is an arrow that can be useful to have in one's quiver. It seems to me he was throwing the cue quite exaggeratedly in some...

    Aim vs. Stroke error poll

Quite a post. A few months ago Blackjack Sapolis told me that it has happened on occasion that some people in pool halls (who don't know him) have come up to him and offered unsolicited "advice" that his bridge is wrong, or his stroke is off, or whatever. Heck, if you watch some of Mike...

    Aim vs. Stroke error poll

Scott, that was a very thoughtful post. Here's a question for you. What do you do when someone's perception of where the balls lie in relation to the pocket is off, and when they consistently over cut by a very small amount in one direction, and slightly undercut when shooting in the opposite...

    Aim vs. Stroke error poll

Alignment is a personal thing. By that I mean it varies from one person to the next. How one stands, where one's head is placed, how one sights and so on are all personal things. Obviously, there are general principles that can be applied to each of those items. However, to think the holy grail...

    Throwing Your Cue....

This is quite an interesting thread. I tried throwing the cue a bit yesterday when practicing, and found it works pretty well for me. I think I'll start using it for break shots in straight pool when the pressure is really on, as Dave suggests, and also for those must-make shots in other games...

    If I buy a Predator cue ....

There was a thread with some guy who was plugging his cues like that, but something happened to it, and now it's locked! Flex

Great post and video. I tried to give you some Rep but the system wouldn't let me. Flex

    Throwing Your Cue....

I'm not into abusing anything. However, my cue has it's share of dings that come about when cracking cues with my opponent, when I'm focused on the lay of the table and crack the butt on the corner of the table, when I'm getting really down on the shot and and stroking probably 1/8" off the rail...

    Score one for the Houligans...

I agree completely. When I have the luxury of a shot like that, here's what like to I do. I look at the shot, see the point of contact, plan the shot with about a tip of follow, and roll the cue ball to the right spot to pot the ball... And I sure hope it goes in.......................... I...

    Score one for the Houligans...

Thinking about this, and trying to implement it over time, I agree that it works just fine for many shots. How do I know that? Well, I just do. Sorry, I know that isn't convincing. Now, here's my perspective on shooting a shot where you know the cue ball is going to squirt, and swerve, and...

    Score one for the Houligans...

Tap, tap, tap! I love shooting systems. The key after all is to get the cue ball and the object ball to behave in such a way as to a): pot the ball, and b): get the proper shape on the next ball. Great post, Joey! Flex

8ball vs 9ball. Which game is more difficult?

A bunch of pool buddies play rotation a lot. PM me if you're coming to the Chicago area sometime and want to meet for some fun playing no-stakes rotation. It's a great game. Flex

    wtb: TRUE sneaky, $100-300

Heck, Schmelke http://www.schmelkecue.com/index.php?cPath=2_62&osCsid=uekll856daa264aqc6n5mca337 probably has exactly what you want. However, to be perfectly certain, have them make you one. They've made three for me so far, and they all play lights out. The last one was the best of the three...

8ball vs 9ball. Which game is more difficult?

While that is often true, it is not always the case. About a week ago I played in a tournament, round robin, race to 2, against a very strong player. Way better than me. We're hill-hill, and I'm at the table, and take what in 14.1 would be a classic shot designed to break up a great big...

Question for players who use both open and closed bridge

In Larry Schwartz's "8-Ball Handbook for Winners" he says one of the most important things when shooting draw shots is to use a very snug closed bridge. He says more shots are missed because the bridge (even a closed one) is too loose. Many people I see shooting with a closed bridge let the...

8ball vs 9ball. Which game is more difficult?

Against a really good player, I don't think adding last pocket will slow them down all that much. It may slow down the moment of the runout, but it won't unduly disable a good player. It just adds an additional complicating element to a runout.

8ball vs 9ball. Which game is more difficult?

If I had to choose which of the two games I'd play against a world beater, it would be 8 ball. Why? Because of the greater sets of options I'd usually have when coming to the table. In a game of 9 ball, miss one shot, and if the balls are all open, and he has a decent shot on the lowest ball...

8ball vs 9ball. Which game is more difficult?

Note that he said on a bar box. It's definitely more difficult than on a 9 footer. It's a very different game on the box.
