CNC MACH 3 runs on LAPTOP or not

Bill both these guys are correct. You could do it with a laptop however the adapter that you have will not work. You could go the Smooth Stepper route however it takes a bit of understanding to set up. Besides that you could purchase an entire PC for the cost of the Smooth Stepper and you will...

    1 of 1 Ginacue 19a - in snakewood

Nice cue. Did Gina use a pie design on this snake wood? That would be a smart move. Jim

    OUUCH on CNC Lathe

Tom is your Y DRO reads .249xx then click on the green area of the DRO and type in on the keyboard .250 and then enter. This should fix your issue. If it does not then repeat until the issue goes away. LOL. Jim.

    OUUCH on CNC Lathe

Tom, the Dro displays on Mach 3 show a supposed position of the axis. This display has not been rounded to the nearest step that you can take. If you want to know how small of a step you can take then look at your motor tuning page. Look at the "steps per" area of the axis. In inches this is the...

    CNC Machine

The Taig is a nice little mill. It does have some limitation however you can get it to do some nice cue work. This is an easy machine to learn on. That being said, check out Deepgroove1's auctions on e-bay...

    OUUCH on CNC Lathe

Maybe I was wrong! Not likely. I would not jump on this band wagon yet. I am glad you understand G-code so well. That is not common. It would be nice to see a video on that demonstration. You will want to run several test on this machine before you go into production or there will be a bunch of...

Got my CNC Lathe in today

The reason I stated that you may not like it is because I use some taig parts but do not use that carriage. This will be what causes you the most issues. My hope is that you do get it to work. You may come up with something that I or others out there have not. You may not have any issues at all...

Got my CNC Lathe in today

I would like to think I know what I am doing and I couldn't get it to work. Mach 3 settings are the easy part, buy the way for me anyway. I will be looking forward to your solution. Let me know when you are ready and I will show you mine. You may not like it. Jim.

Got my CNC Lathe in today

Back lash will not be an issue. Both axis will only be cutting in one direction that is to say for a taper machine. I would worry about drag. The carriage on these are too narrow and will want to cock sideways and then drag. You can combat this in two ways, one loosen up the gibbs, and the other...

    CNC Question: Optical Switch Detection

Gary, you need to have the o0v side of your power converter tied to the zero volt of your larger power supply. That looks to be pin 12 of the G540. I am not saying that your power convert is set up to work this way so try at your own risk. The voltage that you are reading is between the power...

    CNC troubles

Most of the systems that we use work with step and direction signals. If it is a stepper system then how many wires go to each motor? The newer motors have 4 wires with two to each coil. You can check continuity through the coils. This would show an open if it where a connection issue. Jim

    CNC troubles

First things first. Does the dro for the z axis go positive and negative when you jog Z? This would be an indication that Mach 3 is working correctly. If it is then next I would question the motor, motor wires, and the amp. Simply wire up the x or y motor wires to the z axis motor. Don't...

Lomax 5 point African Blackwood and African Satinwood with elephant ear wrap

Steve, those pictures do not do this cue justice. I saw this cue in person. That satinwood really is nice. Someone is going to get a nice cue. Too bad I didn't see it with the wrap on. I love elephant ear. Jim.

    Selling my TB-650 Spindle

Mark, that is a DC motor. You can actually change the speed of the motor by just changing the voltage. There are better ways of doing it but that will work just fine. These motors are intended for RC cars but are well suited for this spindle. Jim.

    Cnc router

I agree, why waste our time if your just window shopping. Please don't be offended however, I have seen way too many people throw feelers out only to not follow through. Do some research and come back when you are ready and ask good to the point questions. Blanket questions tend to go...
