Low cost custom with 2 shafts

This is one of my early cues. Not real fancy, but a great hitting cue. I still use it regularly, but I need some cash right now. Although it's used, it's in excellent shape and one of the shafts is still new and unchalked. Asking $190 shipped in the continental US. Specs: Curly Maple...

    cnc and Bobcad

Just a few thoughts. Your post is a little too vague to know how to answer, but I'll offer one suggestion off the top of my head. One thing that can drive you crazy when you're trying to get inlays to fit correctly is backlash. Have you checked the backlash on your machine? Are you using...

Looking for a cue for my son

One of my early customs I've got one of the cues I made early in my cuemaking. It's not real fancy, but it's a great hitter. I know becuase it's in my case right now and I use it often. Asking $175 shipped with one shaft or $240 with two shafts. Specs: Curly Maple forearm & butt sleeve...

    Shaft Turning (Mis)-Technique

Power feed needed I've never been able to feed smoothly enough by hand to get a good finish. Besides, it's a PITA. IMHO, a power feed will definitely improve the finish.

    Air blower for cnc milling

Less air, not a bigger compressor John's right. You don't need that much air to blow the chips away if you use a small nozzle. I started with 1/4" copper tubing and I had the same problem. It belched out so much air that my compressor would kick on pretty regularly. I changed to the setup...

    5/16 x 18 vs 5/16 x 14 Joint

I use three different pins. I use three different pins 5/16-18, 5/16-14 and 3/8-10. Originally, I started with the 5/16-18 mainly for economic reasons. It's a "standard" thread and I already had taps :o Over time I added the 5/16-14 and 3/8-10 to my inventory. Although my presonal...

    5/16 x 18 vs 5/16 x 14 Joint

Here's my take on it. Since you quoted me, I guess I'll jump back in. Yes, what you said makes perfect sense. A finer thread is "smoother" and will provide more leverage (for lack of a better word) for tightening. However, you just don't need (and shouldn't use) that much fouce to properly...

    5/16 x 18 vs 5/16 x 14 Joint

It's the need for speed. It takes about 4 fewer revolutions to screw on the shaft:rolleyes::grin::rotflmao1: On a more serious note. IMHO, there is no appreciable difference between the two pins. It's more of an arbitrary choice by the builder.

    Finish Problems ...

One more tip. You said you used masking tape!? Some of that stuff has pretty strong adhesive. If I'm taping over a finish, I use the blue painter's tape. Painter's tape will protect the finish, but not stick quite so strongly. I don't know about "billing" the original maker, but, if it were...

Double Tapping threads on a shaft....

Just an observation. To start, no offense Willee. I love your posts and don't want you to stop. I, personally, found this response funny (as well as informative), but I think this is how some of the threads start downhill. Hopefully, KJ will not take the wording of this post as a challange...

    ebony and holly

Me too! I've tried the high pressure air, but I prefer Willee's method better. Once the Holly is sealed, the ebony (or other dark wood) dust won't get in the grain. I've been using a water based polyurethane (same thing I use for my finish) to seal the Holly before sanding, but I'm going to...

    End mill questions ...

End mills It seems that I read somewhere (I think it was on the Precise Bits web site) that the 2 flute end mills are actually better in the really small sizes that we use for inlays. Working in such tight quarters, the two flute end mills leave more room for the chips to be expelled from the...

    What kind of glue?

Questions. Thanks Willee! I've heard about Gorilla glue, but I've never used it. Isn't it one of those glues that expands as it cures? I can see where that would be an advantage for something like gluing in a core, but I'm not sure what the resulting pressure would do in the case of an...

    What kind of glue?

Epoxy A lot of guys swear by West System epoxy. I, personally, have never used it. I use two different brands for structural joints. Devcon 2 Ton epoxy and Loctite Professional 60 minute epoxy. The Devcon comes in the convenient dual tube dispenser. It's great for accurately dispensing...
