Question about APA rule and also a funny rule you might not know of.

First of all, I find it curious that the APA allows jump shots at all, especially since they don't allow push outs. But since they do, how about this: "Jumps shots are allowed with either your shooting cue or break cue. If you break with a jump/break cue, you are not allowed to break it down to...

    What would you do?

Good reply, pj. I don't want to win on a technicality. I want to win on skill. It's hard to argue with honesty and integrity.

    What would you do?

Maybe so but the APA has a rule that says you must mark your pocket on the 8 ball, even on obvious shots. If my opponent makes a clean shot on the 8 ball and forgets to mark the pocket, I don't call the foul. Nitpicking the rules doesn't make you a winner. But technically, you're correct.

    What would you do?

If your question is "should I admit that I 3 fouled and give the game to my opponent", then my answer is... Yes!

    What would you do?

No. It's cheating even if you don't get caught.

The Myth of the Great Shotmaker

Friend of mine is such a good shot maker that he doesn't worry about precise position. He plays very aggressive and I have a hard time predicting what patterns he will use to run out. But his play is excellent and he will win top shooter this session by a landslide. (At one point this session...

Question about APA rule and also a funny rule you might not know of.

Not that simple. The rule changes as often as the weather and is subject to local by laws. In my area, the rule has been that you can jump with your break cue but you can't break it down to do so. However, that may change next week.

How does a sweaty hand affect your stroke?

Always carry a clean towel with your case. Slightly dampen one end at the beginning of play and wipe hands frequently. Wipe down cue and shaft at least once or twice a night. Don't forget to thoroughly dry the shaft immediately after cleaning. I do this and my 8 year old Mezz still looks and...

Why is most Cue Chalk "Blue"?

Don't doubt that. But it drives me nuts to see players chalk directly over the table. :frown:

What are your local rules for 9 ball

Seems like whenever I was keeping score, everyone in the room wanted to drop by and chat. My team eventually banned me from keeping score. Which was probably a good thing.

What are your local rules for 9 ball

I've been told the same thing but it doesn't explain jump shots being allowed. That definitely favors the better player. Seems like both would be allowed. Or neither. I think the push out may actually benefit the weaker player more than the veteran. SL8 plays an SL3 and breaks the rack wide...

What are your local rules for 9 ball

I actually like the APA format for "9 Ball" even thought it's more like rotation than old school 9 ball. There's a lot of strategy involved if you play it correctly. Although I never understood why jump shots are allowed but push shots after the break aren't. APA has some oddball rules. (Don't...

Tips for traveling to Las Vegas

Stay away from Circus Circus. It's like a humongous Chucky Cheeze's. I also found that buying a day pass to the bus is the best way to get from place to place. Side note: went to the APA Team Championships a few years back. It was in late August, I think. Walked out of the hotel about 10:00 am...

Why is most Cue Chalk "Blue"?

Not really answering your question but I use tan. Keeps the cue looking nicer. I don't chalk over the table so it doesn't end up on the cloth.

Kamui tip mushroomed after a few games

I've installed about a dozen Kamui Black SS tips. None mushroomed. They do have a tendency to glaze and occasionally miscue. I'm seriously considering going back to a Moori III Medium on my cue. They mushroom slightly after about a week of play but after a little tuneup on the lathe, no more...

    True or False???

I can say from personal experience that I can't tell the difference between a Schon and Joss fitted with a 314/2. I'm not sure I would add a Meucci to the comparison though. At least not a modern Meucci.
