    Real Improvement

I'm not a therapist but anyone that has undergone EMDR will tell you that muscle memory does exist. (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) This process was discovered by Dr Shapiro in 1995. Some of our professional athletes undergo EMDR sessions. This is not hypnosis and the patient...

What's the big deal with Custom Cues???

I do not own a custom cue and many times just play with a house cue because I just do not take the time to bring it to the pool hall. However I do plan to have one made. Many of the custom's look so nice and I recently saw one of the most beautiful sticks made by Mike Webb. I enjoy it when the...

Cleaning Shafts... Alcohol any negative effects?

A few months ago I had researched this to find out they do not advise on bare wood. This was a red flag which lead to a post I made stating I'm not sure it is good on shafts. I since changed my thoughts after additional research finding out that it does not work well on rough surfaces and leaves...

    Tight Pockets!

Two balls stuck If two balls are stuck deep inside the poket and they will not go in no matter how hard hit, what is the ruling? This happens once in a great while on one of our shimmed tables.

Cleaning Shafts... Alcohol any negative effects?

I was once concerned about magic eraser thinking there must be chemicals to enable it to clean so well. Though so many players were bragging about it that I decided to look deeper into it some time ago. I found out there were no harsh chemicals, none. I then thought that it must be abrasive...

Cleaning Shafts... Alcohol any negative effects?

The fibers in Magic Eraser are soft polymers. If you use it dry, yes it will remove wood just as anything else that is coarse which is why they do not recommend on metal finishes. The fibers react differently on damp bare wood than on painted wood. These fibers are very small and very gentle to...

    Open Bridge Problem

Sometime when I screw around playing pool at a local bar, this is rare, I find the bar sticks extremely sticky. In this case I still use an open and closed bridge. What I do is stroke the cue faster till I sense how to overcome the tackiness. A few players I know use a glove and some just said...

    Tight Pockets!

I'm not sure either but if the pockets are done incorrectly, the ball will jaw more often on good shots. There is a technique though for playing shots that would otherwise jaw and that is when the first pocket face is hit, the OB should have outside English so when it hits the second pocket...

    Tight Pockets!

I've seen players quit the game in our room once the pockets were tightened. Other players became so discouraged that their game went south. Most players are not pros and only a tiny very few take it seriously enough to practice. Given this I would limit to one or two tables. Just my thoughts...

    Is 8 Ball Taking Over?

Good post Andrew. I think what makes eight ball a little easier too is you can also use your many opponents balls as stops. If you are 14.1 player, 8 ball is much easier. I still enjoy watching 8 ball though. I'm also glad it's the IPT game selection because many are familiar with this game...

Cleaning Shafts... Alcohol any negative effects?

Your right about the shafts, hard rock maple shafts generally take a very long time before they get blue, if at all. The softer the shaft the faster this happens. Magic wipes will get this off and no more abrasives needed. Abrasives are the more "primitive" methods and many cleaners rely on them...

    Is 8 Ball Taking Over?

I'm the same, since the IPT I too like watching 8 ball on TV and play it a little more often. Still 14.1 and 9 ball are my primary games.

    Is 8 Ball Taking Over?

slow cloth tight pockets differ We have one or the other in the room I play in but not both. Our tables in the VIP room are shimmed with 860 felt and I still find that even though I do not play 8 ball that often, I run more racks in 8 ball. The felt on the tables outside our VIP room are very...

    Real Improvement

Lots of great posts here I am one to not practice. I just can not and it has negative effects because of a low interest level and then I get sloppy. I play once a week or every two weeks or three weeks. Sometimes I play more often. I always look for someone to play immediately. My first set is...

Cleaning Shafts... Alcohol any negative effects?

Yes, the SlipStic Cleaner (blue bottle) will not raise the grain, washes Mr. Clean Magic Eraser fibers left behind and completely dissipates. Use it with MR. Clean Magic wipes instead of water or alcohol. It should take very little cleaner doing it this way. You can even wash the shaft down with...

    Is 8 Ball Taking Over?

I have run more racks of 8 ball than 9 and I seldom play 8 ball. The reason I think this happens is that after breaking 8 ball I almost always have not only a shot but a choice to begin pattern play. I do think 8 ball is a fun game to watch and play, especially when the table layout is tough.

    Is 8 Ball Taking Over?

I think if 9 ball were call ball, it would be a better game. Also 8 ball has an equal luck factor with exception to making the 8. I have noticed that there are more 8 ball regulation table events today. Mixing up the games 8 ball/9 ball does make pool more interesting to watch.
