    Jumping vs slate

Thanks for the replies. I guess what I am wondering is the long term effect of jumping in a commercial environment with 3 piece slate. I made the last payment on my Diamond Professionals last Friday and hope to open a pool hall in the next few years (despite the fact that all I read in...

    Jumping vs slate

I am wondering how the mechanics here feel about jumping and its effect on the slate. Do you feel it is damaging or a non issue?

    1"x5"x32" Maple boards

Relevance of quarter sawn wood for cues I am curious. Can someone explain the benefit of quarter sawn lumber with regards to wood used in pool cues. I understand the value in a wide board but I dont see the need to use quarter sawn lumber for cues. I am probably missing part of the equation.

    MY Favorite Schon

Nice cue. I've never seen one quite like it. At first I couldn't see paying that much for a stick but the first Schon I owned changed my mind. Now I'm hooked. and Joey... as always... your wit and charm are only exceeded by your good looks :nanner:

    could 526 be broken?

In all of pool 526 is THE record. A straight pool high run doesn't require a worthy opponent. It transcends generations. 14.1 was still widely played and the measuring stick of greatness for 30 years and no one broke it. No one has come close. Yes Irving Crane ran 309 on a much tougher 10 foot...

I would like some opinions on a lathe

I have been wanting to tinker with cues for a wile as a hobby and found an old South Bend (50's vintage). I measured the bed and its probably only 30 inch with the sharp fitting in the tailstock. With the drill style chuck it is probably too short. Any thoughts? Anything else I need to look for...

    Ball return question

I have and older Diamond Professional. Some of the metal rods in the ball return have broken at the welds. I would like to re weld them and apply a new rubberized coating. What would be the best product to use? Thanks

circa 1950 AE Schmidt tooled case

What a beautiful case. Is that similar to the one Fast Eddy carries in The Hustler? Could you post a pic on the interior? I'm curious.

Why do cue makers do this

The fact that a person is informed on raw material prices does not mean that the person has a grasp on reality. I'm an auto mechanic and every so often we run into this same sort of problem "but I can buy ------ on the internet, here, there, or at the junkyard for less. Why do you charge so...

    ................................

I strongly urge anyone considering buying a high end case (or cue for that matter) to get hands on experience with the case they are thinking about before purchasing. Everyone has their own standards and personal preferences. Any one persons opinion of quality is just that, an opinion.

    Flashback to 1986... Chicago

My Uncle was in the teamsters union and drove the prop truck for movies made in the Chicago area. This sign is something he gave me that I have been able to hold on to and wanted to share. http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn43/MoonshineMattK/ColorofMoney.jpg It's a little worse for wear...

    Diamond Table top rail discoloring........

I have owned my Pro-Am for 4 or 5 years and I also noticed the red on the rag when I wipe down the rails. They look just as good now as they did the day it was delivered. Don't worry.

    Nude Avatars/BS

This type of thing always cracks me up. I?m a mechanic, I read Hot Rod Magazine. About 8-10 yrs ago The Dec issue contained a calendar for the new year. You guessed it cars and women in bathing suits. An angry woman wrote a letter to the editor demanding Hot Rod return to its ?pure? roots and...

    Schon ID??? R-8?

Palmer Collector Tate's Palmer Collector website has the best reference material for early schon info I have been able to find. Here is a link: http://www.palmercollector.com/Schon/SchonPage.html Joint ring work like that indicates a very early cue. The inlays in the points and the dice...
