    Teaching Terminology JJ

Thanks. Seems odd. Not a surprise it works poorly in general. Glad my cue was one of the lucky few when I tried it.

    Teaching Terminology JJ

JJ's centered butt concept is interesting and worked surprisingly well when I tried it as I hadn't seen this approach before. Basically you aim up center ball, leave the butt where it is and adjust the tip to the contact point you want. Built in deflection adjustment. Can't imagine it will...

IS IT BAD/WRONG TO SLIDE YOUR BRIDGE HAND???

Ye, to me 1or2 inches is basically the same as getting down exactly on your spot. The move demonstrated in the vid is akin to a 'swan landing on a lake' as the presenter put it. That takes about a hand length of space. Rare in pool, save for shots in the middle of the table, but quite common...

IS IT BAD/WRONG TO SLIDE YOUR BRIDGE HAND???

I agree with you that if already down in your well spaced setup, sliding forward from there and disrupting that would be awful. However, as part of the process of getting down, sliding into position makes a lot of sense. As the guy in the vid posted by Poolmanis points out, the sliding in the...

IS IT BAD/WRONG TO SLIDE YOUR BRIDGE HAND???

Thank you for this post. Pretty much ends any debate imo. The reason guy provides for the slide is solid. Still, this slide is much less common among pool players than snooker players, but you do see it quite a bit when stretching out over the table as having some support as you stretch...

Your 1st Cue, 30 Years Later

My first cue was gifted to me when we moved to a condo with a pool table. It later became my sister's first cue. But my first real cue I bought for myself still gets some play now and then. I played around with an Earlesque fat wrap on the butt (13 overgrips) and didn't want to mess with...

What tip you do you play with?

Tried the G2 soft recently and didn't like it. Squishy. Too soft for me and I like softies. It's hardened up a bit since, but the only good thing I can say about it is that for how soft it is, it kept its shape remarkably well.

When do you play at your best?

ye. here's a snippet from a brain training site's write up on the various brain wave rhythms.... "Theta waves are strong during internal focus, meditation, prayer, and spiritual awareness. It reflects the state between wakefulness and sleep and relates to the subconscious mind." I couldn't...

    Rasson table for World Championships........................

I got to play a new one of these recently. It played fantastic. I guess time will tell how it holds up, but initial level is worthy of having majors played on it for sure. I get that aesthetics are personal preference, but give me this thing over a diamond any day. GC still my fav look...

What tip you do you play with?

    K. I will give it another shot on my main player next. The good one I had was one of the best I ever played, the next one, not so much. Lucky number 3 hopefully.

What tip you do you play with?

Have you had issues with consistency tip to tip? I absolutely loved the tiger everest that came on one of my cues. Then when I got a new one, it didn't play the same at all.

When do you play at your best?

Yup, I've recommended them here before. Super solid overview of the most common snooker grip--the pronated grip.

When do you play at your best?

While associated with alpha waves, 'the zone' is for alpha waves and slower, namely Theta waves. This is why 'the zone' is sometimes even referred to as 'theta' these days. The Soviets were definitely on to something as you are absolutely right that we can't just summon 'the zone'. Theta...

When do you play at your best?

Really? When I was young I mostly played a loop bridge and if open I tucked my middle two fingers under because with a spread hand, my ring finger would dance around involuntarily. Was more of a distraction than a trigger for focus. But I never tried to do it, it just happened.

    Easy-to-remember Billiard(scratch) paths

Even for shots within the general peace sign range of intended use, actual ball paths will vary by a few degrees. The 30degree-ish peace sign is a good guide for getting you close if you don't have a clear idea, but with experience, your eye gets even more precise once you've seen certain shots...

Why different shaft diameters for different games?

PJ makes some good points. Unfortunately, no post on the internet is going to make me forget my experience with different sized tips.... I play an 11.5mm. After a long break from the game I literally couldn't game it at first. Went to a 12.5 and shot much better. Once enough rust was...

In bar table eight ball, do you deliberately miss shots?

LOL Very smart people are not immune to making very dumb plays as they are learning the game (and many years into thinking they 'know' the game). A poker author wrote about how genius businessmen can play like droolers at the tables....it doesn't mean they're dumb (or on the spectrum lol)...

    Playing Under the Influence

My best pool and my best golf happen on that almost mythical 'right amount' of weed. My worst happens on the wrong amount...but at least it's fun.
