My aiming system is guessing....who use the Guessing System?

My comments were in response to the op's statement that he uses no aiming method that he knows of, other than "instinct" or guesswork. That theory can't be taught. I said nothing about ghostball.

    BHE vs FHE

I just know when I watch him play he doesn't do a pivot to apply spin.

    BHE vs FHE

That's likely because Efren comes in on the shot with his cue and stance already in tune for whatever spin he's going to use, rather than getting down on the shot and then pivoting his back hand one way or another to apply spin. A player with plenty of stroke and aiming experience can make...

    BHE vs FHE

Pivoting the cue tip from ccb to 6mm left or right of center requires a grip hand movement of about 1 inch closer or farther away from the body. Pivoting 12mm (1 tip of spin) results in about a 2 inch grip hand movement. That is a big deal when it comes to muscle memory. Consistent stroke...

    BHE vs FHE

    Excellent points.

    BHE vs FHE

Agree 100%. What I'm saying is the stroke and the body should be aligned on the same path/line. A lot of players learn to simply move their grip toward the body or away from the body to apply spin, which knocks the stroke off line with the body/stance. And they wonder why their stroke is...

    BHE vs FHE

That's how most people do BHE, and how a lot of instructors teach it. But to me it's counterintuitive when it comes to developing consistent stroke mechanics. The body/stance and stroke should be in tune with each other every time. So instead of the player simply moving the grip hand in or...

    Contact Point and Visual Distortion

But the contact point is lower than it looks when looking down on a ball, simply because we see more of the top of the sphere than the bottom. I think that's what Matt was getting at. Doesn’t make a difference to me, because I use the diameter of the ball, not the fat equator/circumference...

    BHE vs FHE

I'd say about 98% of all players in the fargo system are below 700. So, unless someone quits their job and dedicates 40+ hours to playing every week, hitting 700 is going to be very unlikely.

My aiming system is guessing....who use the Guessing System?

Lol... this is called experience. Can't teach it to a beginner or to someone who struggles to pocket balls. Well, I suppose you can just tell them to guess, and after a few thousand misses they'll eventually start getting better at it.

    Contact Point and Visual Distortion

This is why I started to gravitate toward fractional aiming, using the width/diameter of the ob to pinpoint an aim line. There is no tricky sphere perception or distortion involved, no trying to estimate a contact point offset or whatever, just the simple width of the ball, which is always the...

    BHE vs FHE

A player could get down on the shot as if to play it with spin, then adjust for what looks right for the intended spin (bhe or fhe, etc...), then, observing the angle and aim of the cue, stand back up and come down on that adjusted line. That's a great way to develop a good eye for eventually...

    BHE vs FHE

Exactly. The "adjustment" for english is simply changing the alignment (stroke line) of the cue to counter the effects of squirt and/or swerve when hitting the cb off-center. This adjustment in cue alignment can be made by moving the front hand, back hand, or whole body away from the ccb...

    AZB Tournaments?

I'd definitely enjoy an AZB tournament somewhere. Sounds fun!

    Increasing stroke speed?

A quick whipping action can be incorporated by use of the wrist, timed just before impact, sort of like the wrist-unhinging part of a good golf swing. The whip action creates a faster club head speed at impact, much faster than what the body mechanics of the arms can provide. The same...

    Sane advice/Heresy ala Neils.........................

Yeah, I mentioned to Dr. Dave once that without flexibility the end mass wouldn't be such a large factor either. I mean, if the end mass was super light but the shaft material didn't allow it to flex out of the way, you'd have maximum squirt. His response was that there is no shaft like...

    Sane advice/Heresy ala Neils.........................

The appeal of carbon fiber shafts (super-low deflection) is that there is less aiming compensation needed for using side spin. This compensation is pretty much guesswork for most players. That's why so many start playing better soon after they switch to carbon fiber. Reducing guesswork on...

Fast Improvement Training Method for Shot Making

Pocketing the ob is not his goal. Delivering a consistent stroke along a known/predetermined line is the goal. It just happens to be that if everything is lined up accurately, and he delivers an accurate stroke, the ob goes into the pocket. That's what he's using as a gage, or as evidence, as...

Fast Improvement Training Method for Shot Making

Of course there is value. But I don't believe the value is in the specific setup or method. The value is in repetition. Repetition is a key element for developing consistency. Repeating the up and back drill, repeating any particular cut angle, position play, or whatever... it all goes...
