Welcome to Gestapo Billiards. Have a good time.

Placing the chalk upside-down on the rail is a bad habit I see all the time. What the hell is so complicated with placing it face-up so you don't get chalk all over the table? Another bad habit is placing a drink on the rail, the playing surface, or in a pocket, or just standing next the to...

Welcome to Gestapo Billiards. Have a good time.

Looks appropriate, except for the GTFO statement. Fact is, too many people pay zero attention to proper poolroom etiquette anymore, either due to lack of knowledge or simply lack of respect. If I had a local room, I'd post the same rules, but change the wording to something other than GTFO.

What it takes to be an expert

This is a great video! I made a small list of suggested books for pool players and provided a brief synopsis for each. Only 3 or 4 of them are pool/billiards related, the rest deal with developing skills or talents, both mental and physical skills. Of course, we all have opinions, so some of...

    For the Taom Chalk Users

I'm at about six months with my first piece of green toam chalk. Never been a chalk hole driller, regardless of chalk brand. I have buddies who are drilling holes into their toam chalk, but they never did that with other chalks. Not sure why they do it now, seeing how you can still...

    Sharivari on aiming....

Good explanation/clarification. If you have any questions, comments, or complaints concerning the Poolology book, please don't hesitate to contact me here, or on my YouTube channel or website. Constructive criticism and feedback is always appreciated.

    Sharivari on aiming....

Sort of correct, but not quite... It's true that with fractional aiming (when keeping the cb and ob on the same line anyway), one has to aim thinner as the cb gets closer to the ob. However, after a distance of about 2ft between the balls, the angle difference is so small that it really isn't...

Mark Wilson - CB or OB Last - Age Old Issue

This is the advice I often give to people. I got it from Allison Fisher. Fact is, there are certain shots where cb striking accuracy is extremely important, more so than on normal shots. These shots include: A firm break shot, jacked up shots, froze on the rail shots, jumps shots, massè shots.

How many hours of lessons should a beginner try to cram into a couple days?

2 to 3 hours is plenty enough time for an instructor to highlight any fundamental flaws or poor habits you may've developed. The lesson should also provide ways to help you remedy the flaws, modify any bad habits. After that, you'll have to put in the work, following the instructor's advice...

Apps for measuring shot angles on a real pool table or by simulations??

Gotcha. It's definitely not an easy thing to do, pivoting the entire cue accurately from the butt end, estimating that 90° intersection... Looks great on paper, but not very practical in reality. Planting the tip at the ghostball and then pivoting the butt of the cue over the cb provides an...

Looking for simple way to take decent video of myself.

I have a great app that Dan White suggested a few years ago. It's called "Coach's Eye", but I don't believe it's available on the Google play store anymore. The app allows you to scroll through your video frame by frame. You can edit, add text, graphics, sound, etc... There is a similar app...

Apps for measuring shot angles on a real pool table or by simulations??

That would make sense, but this part is what makes no sense... "Pivot the stick so it is perpendicular to the line from cue ball to ghost ball, keeping the butt in place." The pivot point is the butt of the cue?

Apps for measuring shot angles on a real pool table or by simulations??

??? I've tried to understand this, but I can't figure out what you're doing ... makes no sense.

My aiming system is guessing....who use the Guessing System?

I like math, so I worked this out... The angle difference for a cut shot, when comparing 2 1/4" pool balls to 2 1/8" snooker balls, is about half a degree with 1ft between cb and ob. More distance between cb and ob greatly reduces this already small/insignificant difference. At 3ft, for...

    Your "first five" pointers...

    1. Develop a consistent PSR and use it everytime. 2. Use your legs. (Walk around the table to gain more visual information about the shot and whatever position you intend to play.) 3. Determine the aim/shot line for the shot from a standing position, rather than getting down on the ball and...

Just for the fun of it... "Capiche" is English. It is one of several English spellings for the Italian word, Capisci (kah-PEE-chee). 😉

    Increasing stroke speed?

Had a friend about 30yrs ago who was breaking, the cb jumped the racked balls, hit the nose of the end rail cushion and came flying back right into his crotch. He buckled over immediately. It happened so fast, it took a minute to figure out why he was lying on the floor.
