    Razors

I am a big fan of cutting the tip to get flush with the ferrule using a sharp razor - anybody ever tried this same method at the joint (cutting through a phenolic collar) to make it flush?

    Pool Rooms / Bedford, TX

Volcanos If your not looking to travel far there is a pool room called Volcanos in Bedford on the corner of Harwood and Norwood. I run a tournament there every Saturday night. 8 footers though. Not as many 9 footers in the area (except at my house :-).

    the hard truth (quit gambling)

My take I am a working man - tax accountant for a big 4 firm. I make good money and have a little to gamble with. My take is you have to play for SOMETHING to keep from just banging balls around. You have to have that little bit of pressure - even if its small to "season" yourself. Playing...

    Richard Black Cues

My Richard Black I have a piloted ivory jointed Richard Black - plain 4 point 4 veneer. My experience is that it plays great - but as far as "asthetics" go it leaves a bit to be desired. Its a 1983 RB and I sent to him for complete overhall (everything - including refinish and rewrap). It...

    Got Balls?

Ball Cleaner Get a ballstar cleaner regardless of weather you get a new set or used. It is amazing. Aramith makes Centenials - so get a set of Aramith premiers. They are great. Centenialls are great too - just a bit more expensive. Got mine on e-bay. Chris

    Trying too hard

The Inner Game of Tennis Totally deals with this problem - read it - doesnt pertain to tennis but to achieving dead stroke in whatever game you play. Trying to do things inhibits fluidity. Effortless effort is what you strive for - read the book. Chris

    Brunswick Anniversary vs. Gold Crown

Comparison I have a gold crown 111 at home and have access to an anniversary. I have a good friend who is a table mechanic who says the anniversaries are built better - easier to work on. I think this is true. I think the gold crown plays a little better (imho). I found the anniversary's...

    Butt Diameter

Johson Hoppe Ivory Joint I can speak for Jensen - I have a titlist conversion from him. Butt is fatt and it hits really good (caveat - it is a full splice - I have not hit one of his half spliced cues). Out of all the tapers I have from my 20 other cues (all the big guys like Scruggs, Stroud...

    Hot off the Schrager Lathe

Sweet I heard Schrager had retired from cuemaking though - even sold his equipment because he had been in the hospital. Did you get it from him? How is he doing?

    Shaft wear

Dont forget chalk Chalk is made of silicate - and works its way into the shaft - friction from this over years is like sandpaper. Will decrease the shaft. Chris

Do you play with dings in your cue's shaft?

Amen I have one cue I swear if you look it at wrong it will ding. Luckily I have a lathe and is easy to fix and keep my shafts clean.

    Cushion Problems

You can fix it You have to have the rails "re-worked" - it is a little costly but worth the money. If you are going to shim pockets - the shim interfiers with the true pocket angle and you get a dead spot. I am not sure where you live but if you contact Ernesto Dominguez he knows your problem...
