Also in terms of why this is geometrically inaccurate, I made these drawings illustrating a back cut. I made the ghost ball (with contact point) literally by copy/pasting the cueball and moving the circle/star until they aligned with the object ball's contact point. The alignments overlap...

    Simple aiming system cont...

At the end of the day we're discussing a visualization process to achieve contact-point-to-contact-point alignment. There are multiple ways to approach this. So another interesting tidbit is that when you're down on the shot (if your vision center is correct), centered at the contact point you...

    Simple aiming system

If you read up on this, you'll learn an incremental improvement to your approach. https://forums.azbilliards.com/threads/willie-mosconis-aiming-system.515592/ Basically an accurate alignment, you'd draw that line through the cueball on an angle parallel to the line the object ball takes. Your...

    Simple aiming system

Funny thing. We know Mosconi’s parallel lines system is accurate. We know aiming the cueball directly at the contact point is inaccurate. This is halfway between accurate and inaccurate. On a bar box with easy pockets, this probably does work most of the time until it doesn’t. Switching the...

Fargo Question. Rating going up without playing.

I have 500 robustness and a rating of 575. My last reported game was 2 months ago. Since then my rating week to week has gone down to 574 and up to 576 without me playing. I imagine players with less robustness will see less swing and players with grossly more robustness might not see any swing.

    Anyone ever get the YIPS?

I guess it’s fair to say my experience was moreso a form of “choking” rather than the “yips” in a formal sense because it didn’t involve certain physical manifestations of spasms or tremors. Though I think some people in a lay sense might refer to choking or going on tilt as the yips. I...

    Using full spin

It’s a good clarification because sometimes people sell chalk, tips, shafts, and techniques based on “WHOA! LOok How much SPIN you Can GET with this whizbang piece of equipment”. And sometimes people respond to that saying professionals aren’t trying to use that kind of 99.9% of potential...

    Using full spin

I don’t want to say pros never use maximum spin. And I don’t want to say they always use maximum spin. I think a good question is this. On average in a race to 10 of 9-ball do you think a pro uses maximum sidespin? 3 time per rack? 1 time per rack? 0.2 times per rack? 0.005 times per...

    Anyone ever get the YIPS?

I can remember a real bad night with the yips. I was having a great league season. We have taken first place four of the last five years with a non-trivial amount of turnover on the team. I’m not the best in the league but I’m extremely dependable throughout the season, oftentimes clutch. We...

    Pocket Sizes Pros 4.25

I will say that of the matches I watched, I saw pool being played at the highest level. Pros were rifling in shots, playing shape, cheating pockets, and running racks. They weren’t putting big packages together but that was by design of the break rules to ensure the game wasn’t reduced to a...

I think it would be a big win to get billiards to show up in Apple News somehow. Seems like something Billiards Digest could tie into.

    2024 World Pool Championship

I think it’s wild to think Fedor won the title and his FargoRate could possibly go down with so many close matches to people he’s expected to be the favorite over while Kaci’s will likely go up with much larger margins in his victories.

    2024 World Pool Championship

I think we all know Fedor will be a hall of famer when he’s eligible. I think prior to this he still needed a little more on his resume. After this, I think he’s cemented it. A junior world championship, a very young world 9-ball championship, the adversity of a political ban, winning every...

    2024 World Pool Championship

That may very well have been the most exciting finish to a tournament ever. My 11-year old daughter was sweating every ball with me from when Fedor was up 13-10 all the way through the hill-hill rack, the win, and the award ceremony. She had me explaining everything including what play-by-play...

    WPA Threatens Sanctions (Hanoi Open)

Can't blame him. I looked at flights from Detroit to New Zealand. Flights were from $1,600 - $2,200. Flight times were from 19 hours - 28 hours. Might as well hold the event in Antarctica.
