I manage OK centerball, have a few straight pool runs in the twenties under my belt. Stroke and aim can for sure be improved but I think it's using english better that's mostly holding me back. Spinning the ball into a good position for my opponent is frustrating (as I sit down).

Straight pool league I'm in works this way too, flexible scheduling works great. About half matches happen during the day, rest in evening. Not sure how this would work for 8/9/10-ball, straight pool matches usually go for 2-3 hours.

In cue discussions I don't recall the term 'energy transfer' used much if at all in the past, it seems to have only started coming up a lot lately with people describing the newer carbon fiber cue shafts. Is this a real benefit of carbon fiber or just some new marketing hype?

I usually do this with the two balls (about 3-4 inches apart) by the foot spot and try to roll the cue ball back between them. Easier to setup.

The pool Gods know when you don't call a foul on yourself and you'll be punished two-fold. Why take the chance?

I'm managed to get the cue ball to roll over the head/foot spots a few times with a 4 1/2 length break - just by chance, no consistency. Real curious if pro-level players can do it consistently. Frankly, seems like a pretty good warm-up drill.
