Sub Rails - poplar vs ash

I'm building some rails. What are the pros/cons of using poplar or ash for the sub rails? I'd noticed from a little sample piece of a Diamond rail that ash was used for the sub rails which got me to think about this.

Match Statistics for 14.1 scoring app

You make some very good points, particularly how safety battles effect the stats. I think you'll be asking a lot to have players enter each shot, hopefully some others on this forum will voice an opinion. Regardless, good luck with your app.

Match Statistics for 14.1 scoring app

The apps are available, one Android (v4), one iOS (v1) and one Windows (v1). They're all very similar, the Android one's been around a few years, the other two are new. They're all free. There's links to the apps on the downloads page of www.cue-md.com, or search for '14.1 Scorer' in the...

Hugging the rail vs. deflecting off

Check out the Pool Shot Analyzer java app, you can get it from the Downloads page of www.cue-md.com. It give you lots of stats about a shot including effective pocket size, error of margin, etc. for different speed cut shots. Just setup (drag/drop) your shot on the app and get all the info...

The FREE 14.1 Scorer for iOS has been released. Ultra easy to use but with all the features you'd expect. Convenient way to keep an accurate score of your matches on your iPad/iPhone. It's a lot like our Android version but improved with complete, nicely formatted match stats, the ability to...

    Digicue

NOT the only one. Actually the first by a couple years is the QMD (www.cue-md.com) for both iOS and Android. It has a lot of meaningful, understandable metrics. Here's a screenshot of a recently added metric that's especially useful.

Match Statistics for 14.1 scoring app

I'm working on an iOS (Apple) 14.1 scoring app. It's looking a lot like my Android scoring app (the 14.1 Straight Pool Scorer), but hopefully better. Below are the match statistics I'm planning to include. Any ideas for other stats you'd like to see? Total Points 100 Shots Taken 120 Shots...

    Measuring shaft deflection

Are you saying a chalked tip and an LD shafts allow more friction to occur, thus more altering the trajectory, thus less deflection? If so, why does a LD shaft cause more friction?

    Measuring shaft deflection

Found the Meucci machine in action here http://meuccicues.com/deflection_videos.html. These vids are rather old, it'd be interesting to see what kind of numbers the latest shafts have. Plus, testing tips and chalks... measure how far the cue ball would spin off the end rail. Yeah, I know...

    Measuring shaft deflection

Is there any independent 'lab' anywhere that actually measures/compares shaft deflection (or is it squirt?) from different makers? In golf there's a number of independent (in theory) places that use high tech equipment (flight monitors, mechanical stroking machines, etc.) that test out and...

what determines the cue ball speed?

A rather unusual question from the OP, but I'm happy it generated some thoughtful, interesting discussion. This kind of stuff is why I look at this forum, and I hope there's more of it.

    Straight Pool Scoring Apps

I'm the developer of the 14.1 Straight Pool Scorer, planning for an upgrade and hoping to get some ideas. Below is a list of the apps I've used. I like them all, they work great with varying degrees of ease and give me all the stats I'm interested in. I lean towards (of course) the 14.1...
