    Rambow 360

Thing is, I can understand how easy it is to be lead astray with a few botched facts. Perhaps he just spoke to the wrong people, who lead him to believe whatever. But holy crap. How you gonna sit there and tell me you have the most rare cue in existence with a straight face lolpool ... As if...

Why Did They Settle On Maple?

Osage Orange would probably be good for cues except that the tree naturally grows crooked more often than knot. Damn near impossible to find straight grain. Yet another reason why maple is ideal, because of reliable straight grain wood. Hugely important in the prevention of warpage.

    Rambow 360

No pics. Just a reference to an ILLUSTRATION of the cue that appeared in the magazine for a totally non related reason.

    Rambow 360

Please understand that by 1900 Brunswick was producing 400,000 cues a year. And Brunswick employed a literal Army of cue makers at the time, of which Rambow was just one, and he was the newb at that point. Furthermore, Rambow, once he gained the right amount of experience, specialized in...

    Rambow 360

Ok kiddies let's start at the beginning. He has a second owner original Rambow... Ok, good so far.... The cue was shown in an article from June 89 in P&B... Ok let me look... Wait. The article in the magazine is by Joe Newell and it's about the use of the Mace. It has nothing to do with...

    Rambow 360

I received this email yesterday and I'm wondering if you feel the same way about it that I do: " I have in my possession a second owner original H. J. Rambow Cue.* This particular cue was shown in an article from a June 1989 Pool and Billiard magazine (of which I have a copy).* It is ivory...

Ah, the golden age of billiards

Since pocket billiards is still very much thriving, and it doesn't have an inherent life-span as living things do, how can we be absolutely sure that it's best days have already happened? Surely you realize that at various points in the history of cue sports , the public side of pool has...

The real reason men are better at pool than women

If not that many participate, then clearly the stats cannot accurately represent the entire talent pool. How many personal friends of yours would you back against Karen? Maybe we can set something up

The real reason men are better at pool than women

There are not one but many reasons that women don't currently dominate the top ranks. However, not one of those reasons is that they simply cant. As our culture changes, clearly more women are playing at all, and more are achieving higher levels of play than any time in pool history, so, I...

Ah, the golden age of billiards

For example, we now have more than 40 junior state qualifiers for the junior nationals, when only a few years ago, there were maybe 8 (junior) college related qualifiers. There is also a new international " Mosconi.cup" style event for the juniors, The Atlantic Challenge Cup, both of which will...

Ah, the golden age of billiards

Billiard News will always, forever more, be found online first, and will also be distributed in an instant all over the world, something that paper media can only dream of. Any notion of a newspaper being more relevant than the interweb recently or in the future is historically ignorant

Ah, the golden age of billiards

There is (almost) every indication that we are entering a new Golden Age. It's different yes but still rich if you look deep enough.

    "Regulation" table term clarification

"Regulation" should mean that the table meets the specs of the regulating agency, which in this case would mean BCA regulations, which is a 9ft table. All proper tables have a 2:1 ratio length to width. "Regulation" applied to any other size would be a misnomer.
